Hesselwoods greet at Blyth United Church

Hesselwood. Ushers were Nicole
and Paul Kerr, Mark Nethery and
Dick Poore. Amanda Howson, Tara
Wilson and Jill Walden were in
charge of Junior Congregation.

nursery.
The call to worship and hymn
"Almighty Fortress" opened the
service with Rev. Jock Tolmay
officiating. The Apostles Creed
"Time of Confession" was repeated
in unison and Psalm III "I will
Thank the Lord" was read
responsively.
The congregation was favoured
with a beautiful solo "Bless This
House" by Christa Cameron
accompanied by music director,
Phyllis Boak. Children's time was
demonstrated with a little toy man
on a magnet. Rev. Tolmay said
sometimes things happen in our
lives and we just fall over; other
times something holds us up. When
God comes into our lives. He keeps
us upright. "A Man there Lived in
Galilee" was sung.
Rev. Tolmay's message was
taken from scripture readings
Deuteronomy 18: 15-20 and Mark
1: 21-28. The title of his sermon
was Jesus: Word and Act of God.
The reliability of God was the
theme. He said, Jesus comes as a
servant to do the work of God in
teaching and healing. We have
conflicts on many levels but Jesus
is Lord over the worshippers as
well as the demons. There is no
difference between word and act.
How do we recognize clues for the
presence of God in our midst? he
asked.
Rev. Tolmay appealed the
congregation as to the intensity and
instability involved with prayer.
"Minute for Missions" was given
by Lenora Davidson. Offertory and
Doxology was followed the
congregational prayer and the
singing of The Lord's Prayer.
Hymn "Thy Kingdom Come" was
sung.
The service closed with
Commissioning, Benediction and
Choral Response.
Sympathy was extended to the
families of Ella Carter. Prayers are

R. Datema leads CRC worship
Greeters at Blyth Christian
Reformed Church Sunday were
Fred and Henrietta VanderSterre.
The service was led by Rob
Datema. The title of the sermon
was "Faith Alone is Worthless".
The scripture reading was taken
from James 2: 14-26. In these
verses James demonstrates through
three different questions why
having faiths means taking action.
The first question asked, what good
was it for a man to have faith, but
not act on his faith.
Secondly, James says show me
your faith without deeds and I will
show you my faith by what I do.
The third question James asks is
do you believe in one God? This
belief is not enough for saving faith
because even the demons have that
kind of faith. The kind of faith that
God requires is faith with action.
Remember the faith Abraham
showed when God asked him to
