Defence key for Blyth Tykes THE HURON-PERTH COUNTY ROMAN CATHOLIC SEPARATE SCHOOL BOARD KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION The Blyth Tyke goalie came up against difficult shots and one-on- one rushes from the Bayfield Tyke players on Jan. 29 in Blyth. Luke Anderson allowed Bayfield only two goals, both scored by Sarah Hessell. The rest of the Atoms lose 2 The Brussels Atoms Houseleague team was edged by two teams from the southern part of the county, away and at home this past week. On Monday, Jan. 24 the team travelled to Zurich to make up a game that had been stormed out only to be blown away by the home team 6-2. Scoring for Brussels were Stephen Todd, with assists to Chris Blake and Tyler Campbell, and Joshua Gropp, assisted by Tim Har­ rison and Blake. On Saturday some dazzling saves by Harrison in net held a strong Stephen Twp. team to three goals. Unfortunately, the home team couldn't manage to get any back giving the Stephen goalie a shutout. 14 teams in bonspiel The Brussels Curling Club hosted the Farmer's Bonspiel on Monday, Jan. 17. There were 14 teams participating. On the 9 a.m. draw, prizes were presented to the teams. The first place team with 51.5 points was Neil McGavin, Jeff McGavin, Gord Pryce and Ron Pryce. Other winners were: second, 40 points, Dave Trafford; third, 35.25 points, Ernie Lewington; fourth, Neil Beuermann; fifth, Cliff Campbell; sixth, Wayne Lowe. The first place team on the 11 a.m. draw with 55 points was Stew Steiss, Steve Steiss, Brian Alexander and Bob Steiss. Others were: second, 41.5 points, Gord Roulston; third, 39.75 points, Rick McDonald; fourth, 34 points, Brad Speiran; fifth, Danny Gascho; sixth, Ross Engel; seventh, Mervyn Bauer; eighth, Walter Bosch. scoring belonged to Blyth. The first goal for Blyth was from Tyler Kemighan, who gave great effort playing the centre position, and was rewarded with a goal. Tyler stationed himself in front of Bayfield's crease, and redirected Brett Bean's pass from the comer into the net. Next, Cody Anderson showed good agility as he took the puck end-to-end and successfully finished the rush by putting a shot past Ryan Montgomery. As the buzzer rang to end a three minute shift, Ryan McClinchey's wrist shot entered the net just a second too late to be counted on the score sheet. Justin's first goal was a strong shot from a difficult comer angle which scooted past Bayfield's net minder. Justin's next two goals were unassisted as he turned defensive plays into offensive rushes, passing to teammates Michelle Cook and Christopher Bernard, or shot on net himself. Rookie, Joshua Albrechtas, contributed with some key defensive plays with help from Taylor Hesselwood and Tammy Root, who assisted to keep the puck in Bayfield's zone. The game ended with a final score of five to two for Blyth. Small Fry Assorted Flavours It's been over a year since Radford Overloads had enjoyed the taste of victory, but with a little luck and some fantastic goal scoring they did it. On the weekend of Jan. 22-23 the Radford Overloads travelled south to Exeter to play in the Exeter Molting Hawks annual tournament. The first game was against Grand Bend. At the end of the first period they were down 3-2, but the second period was all Overloads with them scoring 5 while Grand Bend only hit the goal mesh twice. Final score was 7-5. In the second game against St. Thomas, the Overloads kept the opposing squad at one goal. They passed, skated, scored and even did a little back checking to roll to a 6- 1 victory. The third and final game of the Round Robin against Monkton saw back and forth scoring for both teams. With under three minutes left in the final period, the Overloads scored to have the game left at a 4-4 tie. The Export Division final was a real nail biter. The team members knew they were up against will be held for Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten on Tuesday, February 15,1994,9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in order to register for Kindergarten, children must be four (4) years of age on or before December 31, 1994. Parents are required to bring the Baptismal Certificate, Birth Certificate and Immunization Record Card of the child you intend to register. Parents should contact the school in which you intend to register your child for an appointment prior to the registration date to obtain registration information/materlal that should be completed at home and brought to the registration meeting. After the first period the Overloads were down 3-1, but after a small discussion between coaches and players they seemed to rally.
