School’s end brings graduation, children playing
Finally, some heat! It is amazing
how the crops are jumping in the
fields with the arrival of the high
temperatures. Many corn fields are
only four or five inches high, but
there are some out there, planted
early, that are 16 inches high. I’m
not saying they will be knee-high by
July 1, but at least the hot weather
will bring them along.
Fields of white beans planted on
June 19 have now broken through
the ground as of June 27 and you can
make out the rows fairly well.
Soybeans, that are double-row
planted, are almost touching one
another and with a small shower and
more heat, they will be filling in
shortly.
The heat not only brings on the
crops, but the weeds too! Sprayers
are out and about, not only to
promote growth for the crop, but to
kill those pesky weeds that can
affect crop yield. Many crops
already had a late or poor start, and
can’t have the weeds keeping them
back as well.
As I am writing, it is the last day of
school. Excited children had their
final good morning greeting and
were looking forward to a fun day at
school. Movies for some, a picnic
for others, followed by snacks, hot
dogs and cleaning out their desks.
When I was in school, the lost-and-
found was overflowing, so I am
guessing, some things will not be
coming home!
Graduating from Grade 8 in the
Walton area are Kyle Stevenson,
Meg Fritz, Jack Grobbink, John
Ryan, Courtney Gubelmann and
Eric Gulutzen. I have had many of
these young people since their first
day of school and the time has
passed by quickly, watching them
grow from shy Kindergarten
students to confident young men and
women. Congratulations to all of
them.
Remember, children are excited,
so be watchful when driving and
certainly slow down in towns. Happy
summer to all!
Last weekend was a beautiful time
for an outdoor wedding for Krista
McKay and Carter Cloakey. They
were wed on the property of the
groom’s parents, Doug and Joan
Cloakey. The bride is the daughter of
Danny and Patricia McKay. The
property was beautifully decorated
with flowers and greenery,
immaculate flower beds tastefully
accented throughout the property.
The dinner and reception were held
in a tent with again, lots of beautiful
flowers and navy accents to match
the bridesmaids’ dresses. The
following day, a lovely brunch was
held at the farm for the wedding
party and families to enjoy, before
clean-up! The newlyweds are
residing near Belgrave.
Congratulations to Krista and Carter.
Flying in from British Columbia
to attend her niece’s wedding were
Linda Ten Pas and Brent. They
arrived on Friday, spent Saturday at
the wedding and Sunday at the
Brunch, then headed to Sauble
Beach with mom, Agnes TenPas, for
two days and then flew home to
British Columbia on Wednesday. A
whirlwind trip this time! They had a
chance to visit with brother Paul and
son Drew at the wedding and
reception.
Work is progressing at the RTM
North building in Walton. Footings
in and floor poured, ready now for
framing.
Our sympathies are extended to
the family of Audrey Beuerman on
her passing. She will be missed by
her children Frances Kling and

friendly and had a smile on her face
for all. Our condolences to all.
