The Londesborough Legends Blue
Bantam baseball team captured the
runner-up position of the ‘B’
Division of an annual Exeter fastball
tournament over the weekend.
“It was a good tournament,”
Coach Tammy Squires explained.
“We played three teams we haven’t
faced yet this year.”
The tournament started with back-
to-back wins for the team as the
Blue squad dealt a convincing 19-2
loss to Fullerton and an impressive
8-1 loss to Wyoming.
The squad then suffered a tough
loss to Goderich, losing 10-1, and, in
the B Championship, were edged
out by Exeter 10-7.
The mid-season tournament is a
fundraiser for the Exeter squad,
Squires explained, and works as a
great team-building exercise.
“It’s early in the season and brings
the girls together in a very short
time,” she said.
“We try and get a couple of fun
tournaments in throughout the
season,” Squires said. “Usually we
run up against teams we don’t see in
the season, like Wyoming, who we
had never played before.”
The squad is part of the Huron-
Perth Fastball League and its year-
end tournament is typically held in
the second weekend of August.
While the Blue squad faces off
against local talent, they also tackle
squads from further afield, like
Dorchester, Innerkip, Listowel or
Ingersol.
The Blue team also has a local
counterpart with the Londesborough
Legends Green team.

captures OFSAA
discus bronze
A contingent of four F.E. Madill
School athletes competed at the
Ontario Federation of School
Athletic Associations (OFSAA)
track and field championships held
at the University of Guelph in early
June.
In a highly competitive meet
featuring the best track and field
athletes in the province, Madill
athletes performed well.
Hanna VanStuyvenberg
continued her success in
the discus event. A first
year Senior Girl (Grade
11), she captured the
bronze medal with a
throw of 38.91 metres.
Abigail Kraayenbrink
ran her strongest race of
the season in the Junior
Girls 3,000-metre event.
She not only reset the
school record once again
taking a total of 41
seconds off the original
record this season but she
also claimed an
outstanding fourth-place
finish.
Teammate Steven Shraa
also looked solid in the
Junior Boys 3,000-metre
event earning a personal
best time of 9:26.34 and
claiming a top-10 finish.
His time also set a new
school benchmark. as he
has shaved 35 seconds off
the original benchmark
set by Scott Dolmage
(2013).
Ryan Jacklin, after an
outstanding season
leading to OFSAA in
which he crushed several
school and meet records,
unfortunately succumbed
to an injury which
prevented him from
successfully completing
his competitions in both
shot put and discus.
Jacklin is a first-year
Senior so will have two
more years to
improve on his performance at
OFSAA.
The OFSAA championships mark
the completion of a successful high
school track and field season for F.E.
Madill athletes. Some students
(Grades 7-11) will compete in the
District C Legion meet set in
Kincardine on June 22 at the
Davidson Centre.
