Beginning June 13, the Blyth
Festival Art Gallery will be
presenting the first of its three
professional-level exhibitions,
featuring artwork by Roman
Turczyn and members of his family.
A practising architect for over 40
years, Turczyn played a leading role
in the completion of a significant
number of projects in Canada and
the Middle East. His professional
career was spent studying, planning
and designing the built environment;
essentially the fabric that surrounds
us. During this period, his personal
time was spent exploring and
documenting the richness of that
fabric, using watercolour and
photography.
The exhibition, entitled, “Spirits
Amongst Us”, begins to explore
another dimension to this fabric, a
realm in which an almost divine
presence is at work: our
subconscious. “Our subconscious
plays a pivotal role in how we
interpret the world, how we see
ourselves and how we interact with
others.”
Recently retired to Goderich,
Turczyn explains “I devote as much
time as I can to my life-long
fascination with art and design,
which I consider to be among the
most important foundations of our
civilization”. As a result, he and his
wife Libby have infused their family
with their passion for art and design.
Members of that family will
complement the exhibition with
their work.
The mixed media presentation
features photography, digital art,
jewellery using precious metals and
stones, sculpture, watercolour and
even traditional archery bows. The
artists include Roman Turczyn,
Libby Smyth, Nadia, Nina and Max
Turczyn.
The public is invited to view the
Turczyn family’s exploration of
“Spirits Amongst Us” in the Bainton
Gallery, Blyth Memorial Hall, from
June 13 to July 20. The exhibition is
presented by the Blyth Festival Art
Gallery. It is curated by Kelly and
Carl Stevenson and sponsored by
Maarten Bokhout and Helena
McShane. The gallery is located in
the Blyth Memorial Hall and is open
during box office hours. Admission
is free.

As part of the club’s ambitious
plans to construct a new playground,
add to an existing one and build a
splash pad, the Brussels Leo Club is
hosting a MuchVideo Dance early
next month.
On July 6, the Leo Club will be
hosting a Much Video Dance at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey
Community Centre. The event will
be an all-request dance with all the
proceeds going towards the first
phase of the Leo Club’s project: a
new playground in the Brussels
Conservation Area.
Zoey Onn, the Brussels Lions
Club representative with the Leo
Club, said the goal for the group is to
complete that playground this year,
and Leo Club members really
wanted to host a dance.
“They’re hoping everyone will
come out,” she said.
The dance will be split into two
events: a youth dance from 7 to 9
p.m. and an adult dance from 9:30
p.m. to 1 a.m. The adult dance will
feature a lunch at 11 p.m. and the
event will also include a gift rally.
Onn explained this is a major
fundraiser for the Leo Club’s
projects, so even if people don’t
want to dance, buying a ticket can
support the group.
“That said, it’s going to be a very
fun time,” Onn said. “It’s an
Leo Club dance set for July 6
