PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2019. Huron County Council approved $4,000 in Huron Heritage Fund grants at its Jan. 2 meeting, benefitting the Bayfield Historical Society, the Thames Road – Elimville Community Park and the Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy. The applications were reviewed in November, 2018 with $4,000 being approved by council. The Bayfield Historical Society will receive $2,000, while the other two organizations will receive $1,000 each. The $4,000 was all that remained from the $25,000 set aside at the beginning of the year for the fund. Council approved $21,000 through the fund in May. The Bayfield Historical Society requested $5,000 for its catalogue and inventory project, which aims to catalogue 40 per cent of the organization’s artifacts in order to update the archives records from indexes to full descriptive catalogue records. The Thames Road – Elimville Community Park requested $1,700 from the fund for the replacement of its fence and gate post. The project will replace the original cedar posts and woven wire fence along the property line of the five-acre community park. The replacement of the gateway posts will better mark the entrance. The Huron Tract Land Trust Conservancy requested $1,500 from the fund for its “Love of the Land: Capturing the Voices of the Donors” project. With three land donations the project would record the voices of the donors to capture the “history, emotion and love of the land” that led them to donate to the conservancy. Three projects were denied funding and have been filed for consideration in the May, 2019 intake for the fund. The first was the Blyth Centre for the Arts, which requested $3,000 for the Blyth Festival Heritage Wall. The project will develop a permanent display for the purpose of showcasing the Festival’s long- standing relationship with Memorial Hall and the Huron County community. The application said that the wall would feature 45 seasons’ worth of Festival posters and photographs from past productions. The Municipality of Central Huron applied for $5,000 from the fund for its community park pillar restoration project, while the St. Joseph’s Kingsbridge Community also requested $5,000 from the fund for additional repairs to the centre and its stained glass windows on the west side of the building. In her report to council, Senior Curator Elizabeth French-Gibson said that the fund had received a seventh application, but that the applicant, Staging Our Histories, had received funding for the same project within the last three years. She also said that the “local impact” of the project was “questioned” by the Huron Heritage Fund Committee. The event is set for March, 2019 and the request was for $2,000.
