The second meeting of the 4-H
Square Dancing Club took place on
Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. at the
Londesborough Hall. The leaders
and members would once again like
to thank the Londesborough Lions
Club for their sponsorship and
allowing the club to use the hall.
The meeting started with the 4-H
pledge and roll call. The question
was, “Have any of your relatives
square danced in the past?” After
roll call, members learned a little bit
about the history of square dancing.
Square dancing originates from
Europe, with a large amount of
French influence.
Members learned quite a few new
moves at this meeting, including the
Allemande left, Allemande right,
and do-si-do.
At the end of the meeting, a name
was selected for the club. Members
decided on “4-H Square Dancing
Lions of Londesborough.” The
meeting ended with the 4-H
motto.
The first meeting of the 4-H
square dancing club took place on
Aug. 13 at the Londesborough Hall.
Before elections were held, support
from the Londesborough Lions was
discussed. All of the club leaders and
members are very grateful for this
support.
Elections resulted in Rachel Gras
as the president, Grace Hallahan as
the vice-president, Cassandra Bos
and Kayla Drennan as the secretaries
and treasurers, and Julia DeJong as
the press reporter.
The roll call question was, “What
do you know about square dancing?”
To finish up the first meeting,
members learned the basics of
square dancing, such as how to stay
with the beat of the song and how to
do moves like the promenade and
the square. The meeting ended with
the 4-H motto.

Village mourns loss of Varey says Radford
After I filed last week’s column, I
learned of the sudden passing of Tim
Varey. He was just 49.
Tim and his wife, Michelle, lived
in the little corner house previously
home to various members of the
Overboe family. You may recall my
reporting a year ago last December
that Tim and Michelle had given
each other the ultimate gift when
they were married during the
Christmas season that year.
Tim was a counsellor in a group
home in Goderich. It’s a certainty
those residents will miss his calm,
understanding manner. Tim had
plenty of practice dealing with
young folk, for he was a father to six
children. Son Zackery was living
with the couple for a time here in the
village. Through the post office I
learned that Tim was an avid car
model maker and collector.
The sympathy of the village is
extended to Michelle and the rest of
Tim’s family and friends.
