South Huron Sheep Club plans for Seaforth Fall Fair By Evy Verschaeve The South Huron 4-H Sheep Club met for its fifth meeting with members bringing their own sheep on Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m. Members mingled and shared anecdotes about their sheep to one another as they waited in line for their sheep to be sheared by special guest, Edwin Gerber. Many surprised voices rang out at the sight of their sheep, “He looks so bald!” When all of the sheep had been sheared, the members practised walking their sheep as if they were in a show. Members traded tips to one another as novice members listened closely. When members felt comfortable showing their sheep they loaded them into their vehicles. They regrouped around Edwin’s truck tailgate, where leader Deb taught members how to clean and bundle wool for it to be judged. Members will need to take their fleeces to the Seaforth Fall Fair in September, where the wool will be judged on its elasticity, cleanliness, lanolin and crimp. With this knowledge, the members continued on and they encountered meat rabbits. Members learned what to look for when judging the rabbits, including width, depth and strength throughout. After judging, the official reasons were given. Members took a moment to pet the rabbits, before they observed some fire extinguishers which they will also need to judge. When picking a fire extinguisher for your home, it is important to make sure it is the right type for the fires it may encounter, and is easy to use, among other safety precautions. After members judged and placed the fire extinguishers, they ended the meeting with the 4-H motto, ending the evening with cookies and juice. • Renovations • New Homes • Sales & Installation of Windows & Doors Call Ken 519-887-9857 Brussels, ON C&P PORTABLE TOILETS Teeswater 1-800-834-4414 Ph: 519-392-8474 Fax: 519-392-6168 * Regular Units * Deluxe Units - sink / flush * Handwash Stations * Wedding / Special Event Units * Wheelchair/Infant Care Units * Comfort Station Trailer C&P - for people who are out and “going”!
