Here we are enjoying the last week
of summer holidays. Mothers are
busy getting kids new clothes,
backpacks, stocking up on lunch
items, school supplies, water bottles,
shoes and the list goes on and on.
A familiar face could be seen
around Brussels a couple of weeks
ago in Linda Ten Pas Laing. She
arrived for a five-day visit with
mom, Agnes. The pair went to a
cottage in Sauble Beach for a quiet
time together, which they both
thoroughly enjoyed. Beautiful
weather, lovely cottage, peaceful
walks on the beach and a peacetime
visiting with each other. A short
visit, but a wonderful one.
Another familiar face around our
area for a vacation is Joel Dalton. He
is here, along with his girlfriend
Heather, to visit friends and family.
They have been around for two
weeks from Grand Prairie, Alberta,
where Joel works in the oil fields.
Our get-well wishes go out to Jane
Hall who has suffered a broken hip.
She was enjoying a family
celebration when the accident
occurred. She was in Stratford
Hospital and will be transferred to
Seaforth for her rehab.
We are glad to hear that Stew
Steiss and Madeline were not hurt
when they were involved in a small
car accident. Stew is a little stiff and
sore but Madeline was not hurt.
Congratulations to Grandma Julie
Jutzi on the arrival of a second
grandson. Daughter Kendal and her
husband Andy have welcomed son
Brooks to their family and big
brother Brody is very excited.
Our sympathy is extended to the
family of Rae Mathers on his
passing. He will be missed by his
wife Rosemary (Blake) and children
Crystal and Michael and their
families. He will also be missed by
his siblings Grace Campbell, Ruth
Townsend and Ken Mathers and in-
laws Paul Blake and Kathy Elliott
and their families.
Rae will be remembered by many
for his love of baseball. Playing in
the old Brussels and area Tri-County
League of yesteryear and in
Goderich. We would always see him
at the annual fastball tournament
helping out in some capacity.
A warm welcome goes to Irene
Blake who is now a resident at the
Highland Apartments at Huronlea.
She is settling in and hopes all her
friends drop by for a visit.
Congratulations to Scott and
Kaitlin Dalton on the birth of a
second son last week. Little Owen
will be welcomed home by big
brother Luke and is the seventh
grandchild for Ken and Brenda
Dalton. Congratulations to all.
The western part of the family is
here right now with Rick’s brother
Neil, sister Karen and her children
Kendra and daughter Gabriella and
Michael and his son Brycen all
visiting. The female group of the
family went to the Huron County
Playhouse on Thursday afternoon to
see The Little Mermaid. It was a very
enjoyable show and the two little
girls, Brea and Gabriella, had their
picture taken with the character
Flounder after the show. Some of the
men of the family opted to go
golfing on Saturday but ended up
getting quite damp, so it was a short
day together for Scott, Mike and
Brycen. Sunday was the family
picnic on the Stevens side of the
family at our home. There were
about 30 in attendance to enjoy an
afternoon visit and then pot luck
supper and a chance to catch up.
Our poor little granddaughter Brea
suffered an accident on the bouncy
castle and now has a broken arm. It
was a quick end to the picnic day as
off to hospital in Seaforth and then
to London to be set. She was a real
little trooper through it all her mom
reports and now sports a lovely cast.
Walton has a new Princess in Jaden
Shortreed. She was crowned at the
Huron County match last Friday and
we send our congratulations to her.
Way to go Jaden! She is the daughter
of Jim and Valerie Shortreed.
Celebrating birthdays this past
week include Blaine Hackwell,
