September marks
return to school,
closure of pool
Time to change again. By week’s
end we’re into September and for
many that changes everything.
For everyone involved in the
school year, the work has already
begun and it takes on a new rush this
next week. So supplies are noted,
schedules viewed and anticipation is
growing. Back to serious business
for many.
This is the time for hopes and
dreams. Each student is on their
path, be it Kindergarten, Grade 7 or
college or university. The
possibilities are endless and the
choices that need to be made along
the way are very serious business.
So be supportive, give suggestions
and really listen. This is life-
changing. Just listening to the
possibilities as young people chat
lets you know the wide range of
career choices available when they
have the right courses. It gives you a
good feeling for our combined
futures.
The pool closes this week and I for
one am going to miss the smiles and
greetings of the summer staff. The
availability of pool time was a gift
over the summer to be able to pop to
the pool in short order. Attendance at
pool time is an issue. Now for me
that was great, I often had the pool to
myself, but from a business point
that cannot be sustained. Like any
other facility that has been around
for many years, we take it for
granted.
So as you cocoon this winter,
make a list of how you would run the
community pool.
Then next spring, perhaps the
schedule would accommodate your
needs, if you’re prepared to attend.
In the meantime, thank the guards
for their friendly instruction and
welcome. Good job!
Bye now, Betty G.W.

At the Branch
Rain doesn’t dampen Abate ride
By Jo-Ann McDonald
The Brussels Legion Branch has
been quiet, but it had special visitors
on Saturday morning. The Huron
Perth Abate Chapters 14, 10 and 7
conducted their annual Ride for the
Cure Poker Rally. It was not a very
nice day with a lot of rain, but there
were about 26 motorcycles and 34
riders who arrived at the Branch
about noon. The Branch has had a
donation jar on the counter, and
along with additional funds, the
Legion made about a $100 donation
to the club for the Huron Respite
Network, which will support
children and teens mental health
concerns/suicide awareness.
Good news! Catch the Ace will be
returning in September. The
paperwork is filed, the new tickets
ordered and will soon be for sale.
Look for them at their usual outlets
beginning around Sept. 8. The first
draw will take place Sept. 21.
The early bird membership
program starts in September. Pay
your dues at the early bird rate of
$50 and have your name entered into
the draw for a free year of
membership. There is a draw each
month and if you pay in September,
you have three chances to win,
September, October and November.
Drop in today and renew today, it
