on Tourism
Assoc. board
Since its inception in 1991, the
Huron Tourism Group has been
meeting on a regular basis to
strategize and implement tourism
growth and economic development
within Huron County: the Annual
Tourism Day and Brochure Swap
being just one highly successful
project of the Huron Tourism
Group.
On Sept. 7 the Huron Tourism
Group officially became the Huron
Tourism Association and on Oct. 7,
elects its first board of directors:
president, Richard Fitoussi (Little
Inn of Bayfield); vice-president,
Kathy Nichol (Benmiller Inn);
treasurer, Micheline None
(Micheline's Jewellery Boutique,
Bayfield); secretary, Mike Pullen
(County of Huron/Blyth Festival);
Brian Treble (North Huron
Community Development Area);
Harold Siberry (Bayfield Cottage
Colony & Marina); Mary Turford
(Maple Leaf Motel, Goderich);
Cindy Fisher (Huron County
Planning & Development Dept.);
Joan Cassidy (Brentwood on the

(Blyth Festival); and John
McHenry (Huron Country
Playhouse).
The mandate of this association
is to develop and target cost-
effective and result-oriented
tourism strategies within Huron
County. Being a membership-based
action organization and not just
another interest committee
members have equal input in to
association business and can voice
their ideas and concerns at monthly
meetings.
Currently, the Huron Tourism
Association has over 50 paid

They have started reading "Ski
Stooges", a novel written by Paul
Kropp.
With their Grade 2 buddies, they
planned to make and serve a
Christmas dinner on Dec. 14. They
are also drawing for Secret Santa in
the class on Friday.
In art, they are constructing a
Christmas candle holder, using
cones that they have collected since
the start of school.

GRADE 2
The Grade 2's made wreaths for
Remembrance Day. They also
wrote poems about Remembrance
Day with their reading buddies in
Grade 8.
Yesterday they read a true story
about a young Indian boy's first
buffalo hunt. In math they are
going to have lots of fun learning
Gentle Donkey" and "When Santa
Claus Gets Your Letter".
Kindergarten, Grade 1, and
Grade 2 spoke and sang about "An
International Christmas".
Grade 7 dramatically explained,
"The Feeling of Christmas" and
wished "Joy to the World".
The Senior Choir thought it was
"Beginning to Look a Lot Like
Christmas" and "(They'd) Be Home
for Christmas" then, explained
what "Christmas Is".
Grade 3 and Grade 3/4 took us
under the sea for "A Fanta-Sea
Christmas".
The audience joined them to sing
"It's a Small World."
You can easily see that you really
missed a good night of
entertainment when you missed our
concert.
Will we see you next year?

GRADE 4/5
Now that students have
completed "Architectural Antics"
they're learning about buildings and
how they're made.
They saw a video on all the steps
of building a house. They were
very interested in the houses of the
future. It's amazing what recycled
plastics will be used for in homes,
such as fire resistant roofing.
Already there are windows that
cloud over on their own to protect
from the cold.
The students can't wait to be the
future engineers and designers of
these products.
GRADE 8
This week is very busy, with all
the classes practising for the
Christmas concert.
Also this week the Grade 8 class
is having a court dance. The
president of the students' council
will pull a ballot out of a box,
choosing a Queen and King from
Grade 8, a Prince and Princess
from Grade 7, and a Duke and
Duchess from Grade 6. These three
couples will skate around the rink
together when students go skating
Friday.
They had guidance counsellors
from the local high schools speak
to the Grade 8 class about the
Transition Years and about
experiences in Grade 9. Former
students Ronnie Abel-Rinn and
Shawna Walker shared personal
experiences of Grade 9 with those
planning on attending CHSS.
FRENCH AND ART
All French classes in the junior
grades have been practising a
French Canadian Christmas medley
called "Ziguedon" for the concert.
Cappy Onn is playing her violin as
well.
The Grade 2 classes are
completing a unit on "les
dinosaurs". They've also learned
some food words and can tell time
by the hour in French.
Grade 1 has started a Christmas
unit. They will be learning the
names of some toys and of Santa's
clothing.
Grades 3 and 4 have also begun a
unit on winter activities.
In Art, the Grade 8's have worked
very hard at painting decorations
and backdrops for the concert next
week. Their oversized paper dolls
add a colourful, international touch
to the gymnasium.
GRADE 4/5
The class is very excited about a
class trip to Goderich on Dec. 17.
They're experiencing a Victorian
Christmas. They'll celebrate
Christmas as a group in a heritage
setting, then later go bowling at
Little Bowl in Goderich. They're
learning to score during class and
we'll use computerized scoring the
day they bowl.
They can't wait!
