Marie, daughter of Jacquie and Rob

TenPas; and Marissa Grace,
daughter of Murray and Tara Pipe.
On Sunday, Nov. 21 new
members Mary and Alan Carr
joined the fellowship.
December is a busy, and exciting
month as Melville celebrates
together as a church family in this
wondrous joyful season of Christ's
birth. Throughout the month

Advent candles will be lit each

FREDERICK W. BREWER
At his residence in Morris Town-
ship, on Sunday Dec. 12, 1993, Mr.
Fred Brewer passed away in his
48th year.
He was the beloved husband of
the former Karen Wettlaufer.
Mr. Brewer was the dear father
of Melody and Mike Harnack of
RR 3 Brussels, Tim Brewer of
Brussels, Yvonne and Murray Fis-
cher and Sue and John Richmond,
all of Belgrave and Bob and Sheryl
Murray of Wingham.
He was a brother to Clifford and
Joan Brewer of Milton, Gerald and
Marg Brewer and Nancy and Frank
Wettlaufer, all of Gorrie and Les
and Bonnie of Bluevale.
Mr. Brewer is survived by nine
grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his par-
ents John and Margaret Brewer.
Funeral services were officiated
by Rev. Randy Banks at McBurney
Funeral Home in Wingham, on
Dec. 15.
Interment was at Brussels Ceme-
tery.
Memorial donations to the Cana-
dian Cancer Society would be
appreciated as expressions of sym-
pathy.

On Dec. 4, members of the youth
groups at Melville walked the
parade route to gather canned for
the Christmas Bureau. The annual
"Mitten Tree" service followed on
Sunday morning, with the children
decorating a tree donated by
Allison and Sean Purcell. The
congregation knits (or buys) mitts
etc. and the children strew them on
the tree, placing gifts of canned
food and toys under the tree. The
sanctuary was beautifully decked
out for the occasion, by Dona and
Jim Knight and Mary Tenpas and
Siebe DeJong. George Lavery and
Richard Lindberg delivered all the
goods up to the depots in .
Wingham.
On Dec. 12 the church school
presented its Christmas concert
with some 60 kids participating.
Plays and carols and readings were
Etoile Johnston on the piano.
Las Posadas, a play written by
Rev. Gary Davis of Lake Oswego
United Church of Oregon was
capably presented by the Sunday
School class assisted by their
teacher. Julie Elston and Adam
Garniss were narrators and the
choir helped with the singing. The
smaller children, under the
direction of leaders, Laurie
Chapman and Joyce Johnston
performed and sang Christmas
songs, "Ringing the Bells", "Here's
Luke 2:8 - 20 and Matthew 2:1-12
were read.
Erma, Dorothy, Feme McDowell
and Mary Walden had Christian
meditation with a candle lighting
service, "Home for Christmas."
Erma closed the devotion with a
Christmas poem and prayer.
Bonnie Shannon introduced
Barb Hicks from Clinton, who
spoke on "Sharing Faith" and some
of the personal experiences. Susan
Howson thanked her and presented
her with a gift. Bonnie gave Susan
an appreciation card for all her
work as president for the last two
years signed by all who were
present.
Susan closed the meeting with
prayers.

Today's world is trapped in not
acknowledging the fact that they
need a Saviour. Therefore we have
a job as Christians. We have the
gospel. We need to share it.
Rev. DeRuiter tied his message
in with the Christmas season by
saying that Jesus is the reason for
the season. Let us be thankful that
presented.
The Junior Choir is busy
preparing .7or its mini-Cantata
which they will present on
Christmas Sunday morning, Dec.
19. The High School youth have
been practicing for weeks now for
their rendition "The Grinch Who
Stole Christmas" also for the
worship service on the morning of
Dec. 19. At 7:30 p.m. on that same
Sunday the senior choir presents its
annual Cantata: "Christmas
Greetings".
At 7:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve,
Melville will celebrate the Lord's
birth in a service of worship with a
special children's time with a gift
and "Precious Moments" video for
Kindergarten and preschoolers.
There will be carols, musical
selections by both of the choirs, the
reading of the Christmas story, a
message and candlelight. Elders
will light the Christ candle and then
watch as His light spreads person
by person throughout the church
family.

While the offering was being
received by Ed Powell and Larry
Elston, the congregation presented
their white gifts, which will be
given to the Children's Aid
Christmas Bureau to make a
happier Christmas for the less
fortunate. Rev. Banks expressed his
appreciation to the Sunday School
teachers and children for their
splendid presentation on White Gift
Sunday.
The church was adorned with a
decorated Christmas tree, candles
and poinsettias. The previous
Sunday the teachers and children of
the Sunday School had decorated
the church and practiced for the
white gift service. The Willitts
family lit the second Advent
Candle and Laurie Willitts gave the
Candlelighting Liturgy.
Following the service, all
enjoyed a pot luck luncheon.
The sixth lesson of the Gospel of
John Bible Study was held
Wednesday winning at Bluevale
with a grad attendance.
The Study will continue in the
new year on Jan. 6, at 8 p.m. at
Bluevale. Everyone is welcome to
attend.
Christmas Eve Service will be
held at Knox Presbyterian Church,
Bluevale on Friday, Dec. 24 at
7:30 p.m.
