The Citizen, 1993-12-15, Page 12On Dec. 9, Cole Stewart opened
the scoring for the Blyth Novices
games against Mitchell II, after
Kirk Stewart won the face-off and
drew directly back to Cole who
laced the puck into the far corner
past goalie Phil Smith.
The second goal came after
Bradley Schmidt cleared the puck
from the boards, across to Shaun
Henry who accurately shot to an
open spot in the net.
Defenscman Andrew Toll,
Michael Bean and Nicholas
Courtney did an excellent job
penalty-killing to keep Blyth ahead
in the game and keep Mitchell off
the scoreboard.
Kirk Stewart obtained his second
assist of the game on a goal which
found Robbie Archambault twirling
around with a backhand shot up
over the goalie's head.
Micah Loder and Jeff Carter
completed a similar play as the first
goal, with Loder winning the
faceoff, deep in Mitchell's zone,
and the puck landed on Carter's
stick, who without any hesitation,
slipped a quick wrist shot past
Mitchell's other goalie Jason
Verhoeve.
With less than a minute
remaining in the game,
Archambault showing determined
effort in front of a crowded net,
poked the puck in for Blyth's final
and fifth goal. SANTA HO - HO - HO - PES

Tykes show promise

at least four of his six goals from
rebounds.
Sandy Hay contributed with
enthusiastic chases to the puck, to
help intercept passes. He also made
a•pretty pass himself to Michelle
Cook for a goal.
Michelle is a consistent, steady
player, who shows great
determination to turn the pass into
an accurate shot on net, and her
precision-type thoroughness paid
off as she scored four times for her
team.
Beginner, Darcey Cook
displayed potential for a natural
hockey sense, persevering through
difficult situations to poke the puck
past the goalie.
- Tammy Root worked hard
against the boards coming up with
the puck to keep the play in the
offensive zone, while teammates
Christopher Bernard showed
developing skills in the defensive
zone and had a tip ahead assist to
one of Justin's goals.
Tyler Kemighan, a solid reliable
defensive player, benefitted his
team greatly with his clearing shots
and his ability to keep feeding the
puck to his forwards, although he
also picked up his first goal after a
determined break away up through
the middle ended in a nice wrist
shot which zoomed into the net to
end the game against Teeswater.

As the Brussels King falls the C.W. Juvenile makes his move on ball during this tournament
game on the weekend, hosted by the Kings and the Brussels Gamblers broomball team in
Brussels. Sixteen men's teams and eight ladies competed. While Brusels came away with a
4-0 win in this game it was the Seaforth Dumpers who claimed the A and the Universals who
took the B. For the ladies, the Red Barons won the A and the B was taken by the Lost Sheep.
Jarrett creates thrills for Novices
Mitchell, however, did not give
up and scored with only seven
seconds left. Blyth's goalie Eric
Jarrett had played an excellent
game in net with outstanding glove
saves, dives and rebound cover-ups
although, occasionally his puck-
clearing wild arm swings sent
shivers down some spines.
