Children present Knox service

Missionary Church parish
gets Christmas reminder
Doran Rolston and Wally Peper
sang a duct on Sunday, Dec. 12 in
the morning service at Auburn
Missionary Church. Their song
"Christmas is Jesus" reminded
everyone what Christmas is really
about.
Making the most of one's
opportunities was Pastor Carne's
message with scripture from St
Luke 2: 1-7. There are places
which are noted because someone
of honour has been there. Perhaps
the innkeeper of Bethlehem was
very upset with himself when the
stable and manger became a
notable place rather than his inn.
He missed the opportunity to host
the Son of God, said Pastor Carne.
What about opportunities? If we
miss the opportunity for salvation
On Monday, Nov. 29 Vera
Penfound opened her home to the
Walkerburn Club for their
afternoon meeting.
Ethel Ball opened the meeting
with a poem "Old Fashioned
Christmas" followed by prayer.
Betty Archambault read the
minutes of the last meeting and also
correspondence. Letters and cards
had been received from Susan
Gross and Carman Gross.
Ruth McClinchey gave the
treasurer's report and it was decided
to send $25 to each of the
following: Home Care, Town and
Country Homemakers, Community
Service and Alzheimer's.
It was decided to send gifts to
Nellie McDougall, Marion
Schneider and Roy Daer. Cards
were also to be sent to a number of
friends.
Betty Archambault offered her
home for the meeting of the new
year on Jan. 31. Ethel and Vera
Penfound will be in charge of the
program for that meeting and
Brenda Huizinga and Kay Lapp
will be responsible for the lunch.
Ethel read "Christmas Around
the World" and Vera read a poem
"Christmas Carols". A
Silver Tops
to host party
The Auburn Silver Tops held
their Christmas party at the
Community Hall on Wednesday,
Dec. 15 at noon.
President Dorothy Grange
welcomed all and read a Christmas
poem. Rev. Paul Ross led in grace
then everyone sat down to a
delicious turkey dinner prepared by
Maxine Seers and her daughter,
Carol.
The program committee of Ethel
Ball and Tena Empey gave out
calendars and also packages from
th OPP to each family. Marion
Haggitt read a poem. Ernie Durnin
played several mouth organ
selections accompanied by
Marjorie McDougall.
Rev. Ross led in the singing of
Christmas Carols. The president
thanked Maxine and Carol and also
thanked the committee for planning
the program. Prizes were given out,
with each person receiving one.
Euchre was the played and prizes
awarded to the winners.
The president thanked all for
attending and a very enjoyable
afternoon came to a close.
the consequences will be eternal. If
you hear the gospel and don't act
upon it you will miss out the
opportunity to be saved. Just as
Noah's ark is a symbol of refuge;
one day reality will set in and we
will learn that we missed the
opportunity to accept Christ as
Saviour, Pastor Came said.
He said, there is the opportunity
for service, which shouldn't be
missed, when someone asks "Can
you point me to the Saviour?"
What a great privilege to lead
someone to accept Christ as
Saviour, said Pastor Came. The
prayer should be, "Lord make me
useable for you."
Christ has saved us to serve and
it will be worth it all when we get
home.
miscellaneous sale was held, which
was quite successful.
The meeting closed with a
delicious lunch served by Martha
Daer and Vera Penfound and a
social time enjoyed.
UCW enjoys
pot luck lunch
The Auburn UCW was invited to
Londesboro for the Christmas
meeting on Monday, Dec. 6. A
sumptuous pot luck dinner was
enjoyed by everyone at 6:30 p.m.
The UCW then enjoyed a
wonderful program — duets, solos
and readings.
The guest speaker was Alma
Langford of Exeter, who spoke on
Christ's birth and true meaning of
the season. It certainly left
everyone with the Christmas spirit.
Auburn UCW thanked
Londesboro friends for such a
wonderful service.
