News from Huronlea
Huronlea residents enjoy busy season

We have had a very busy fall at
Huronlea. We are very pleased to
have our regular programs every
month along with other special
events that go on at the home. Don
Dunbar entertains residents with
selections on piano and organ the
third Tuesday of every month.
Dorothy and Harold Sterner and
Sara Stevenson entertain monthly
at 2 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday
of each month.
Monday afternoons at 2:30 the
"Sing-A-Long group entertains in
the chapel.
The ministers of Brussels-Walton
The Majestic Women's Institute
hosted a card party with eight
tables played.
Prize winners were: high lady,
Mabel Bauer; high man, Garner
Nicholson; low lady, Clara Haig;
low man, Jane DeVries; lucky
table, Helen Gallop, Reinhardt
Bauer, Jane DeVries; Iona McLean,
lucky tallies, Jean Ireland, Kate
Wilson, Alice Nicholson, Ross
Stephenson, Ruth Bauer, Lois Hart.
Lucky door prizes went to Iona
McLean, Betty McDonald, Lois
Hart and Ross Stephenson.
A pot luck luncheon started the
Christmas meeting on Dec. 8.
Alice Brothers led the members
in a sing song. President Ruth
Bauer opened the meeting and
welcomed all the guests.

UCW meets
The Brussels UCW met in the
church parlour at 6:30 on Dec. 1 for
a pot luck supper and Christmas
meeting.
Following a bountiful meal,
Betty Campbell led in a sing song
with ALce Brothers at the piano.
Nelva Scott entertained with a skit
"Just before Christmas be as good
as You can be."
The worship was in charge of
Nelva Scott, Isabelle Wheeler and
Pat Watson. Pat opened the
worship with the reading• "What do
we bring to Christmas?" followed
by the carol "Silent Night, Holy
Night." Nelva gave the legend of
the poinsettia.
The scripture was the Christmas
Story taken from Matthew, Luke
and John. Isabelle Wheeler read
"The Christmas Spirit" followed by

Sunday afternoons at 2 p.m.
The monthly birthday parties are
held on the second Tuesday of each
month at 2 p.m. In October the
Seaforth Senior Citizens Club
provided the entertainment and
goodies for lunch. In November the
Happy Gang Seniors from
Wingham provided the
entertainment and goodies. We
appreciate the clubs for helping us
out each month.
The monthly residents council
meeting was held in the fitness
room. Edna Evers chaired the
meeting.
On movie day, the residents
included the card party to be held
on Jan. 4 with the committee of
Marie McTaggart, Melody White,
Jane White and Dorothy Steffler.
Invitations to the Ethel 4-H
Achievement program on Dec. 20
at 7 p.m. in the Brussels Library.
Shut-in boxes were packed on
Friday, Dec. 10 at 1 p.m. in the
library.
Roll call was answered by giving
a donation to the shut-in boxes.
Melody White informed the
members of a Lifeskills
competition for any 4-H member to
be entered in the fall fair. Leona
Armstrong made a motion that a
donation be made towards buying
trophies for this cause.
A birthday prize for a lucky guest
went to Eva Wright.
Quilt blocks were handed out
members to have appliqued before
the January meeting. Thtse blocks
will be made into a quilt which will
be raffled off later in 1994.
Jane DeVries introduced the
guests speaker Ruth Sauvd. Mrs.
Sauve spoke on her recent trip to
New Zealand. Articles including
post cards, tea towels and pictures
were shown around. Members were
left with an urge to go visit this
beautiful land.
The meeting closed with
everyone being wished a safe and
happy holiday by one and another.

all while watching the movie.
Heidi's walk in clothing store was
in the fitness room on Oct. 26.

The Brussels hymn-sing group
entertained at Huronlea.
The Walton 4-H club visited
Huronlea along with their leader
Dianne Baan. The girls brought
cookies for all the residents. A
small bazaar and tea was held on
Nov. 23 for the staff and residents.
Every Friday afternoon it is
Bingo time at 2 p.m. in the fitness
room. Helen Roy and B.J. DeJong
come in every Friday to run the
Bingo program.
Christmas decorations have been
put up in the home so we are really
getting in the mood for the
holidays. If you are visiting take
note of our Christmas tree in the
main lobby. We are really proud of
it. It has 1,000 miniature lights on
it. I would like to thank Bonnie,
Betty - B.J. DeJong for helping me
to decorate it on Tuesday.
I would like to take this
opportunity to thank all the
volunteers for helping out in any
way — also the entertainers for
taking their time to come to
Huronlea.
December is going to be a busy
month. Please take time to
remember to stop in at Huronlea to
visit our residents and take part in
the program that might be on. We
are also welcoming any outside
entertainers to call 887-9267 and
ask for Mary to arrange a date and
time for you to come to Huronlea.
I am also looking for volunteers
to help with cooking, crafts and
taking residents to programs.
