Blyth wins
consolation
by 3-1
Continued from page 18
Blyth got on the scoreboard with
four minutes left in the game.
Perseverance paid off as Howson
assisted on Heipel's shorthanded
goal. Blyth pulled their goalie but
couldn't get their offence untracked
late in the game as they were
defeated 3-1.
This loss sent Blyth into the
Consolation Championship on
Sunday afternoon against
Tavistock. Another undisciplined
game by an opposition team left
them on the short end of a 3-1 score
as Blyth claimed the Consolation
Championship with yet another
strong, determined effort.
Blyth opened the scoring five and
half minutes into the game as
Chamney won a face off in the
Tavistock zone and fed defenceman
Datema. Datema's drop into the
corner was picked up by Heipel
who skated in front and stuffed in
the puck. Two minutes into the
second frame Lyons increased the
lead to 2-0 while Blyth was on the
power play as he deflected
Datema's low point shot. Five
minutes later McNichol increased
the lead to 3-0 as he swept Hakker's
centering pass into the open net.
Tavistock cut the lead to 3-1 with
five minutes left in the second
period which set up a wild third
frame. Blyth played heads-up
hockey throughout and claimed the
B2 Consolation Championship
trophy and banner.'
The team effort was evident
throughout the tournament and
goalies Chris Lee and Michael de
Jong came up with some uncanny
saves throughout as they led the
Midgets to victory.
