Brussels Livestock report
Fischer cows average $74.35 with high of $80.75
Sales at Brussels Livestock for
the week ending Nov. 26 were: fed
cattle, 763; cows, 246; veal calves,
169; sheep and goats, 134;
stockers, 1,432 and pigs, 95.
The market at Brussels Livestock
saw fed steers and heifers selling
on a strong active trade. Cows sold
fully steady.
There were 510 steers on offer
selling from $94 to $98 to the high
of $113. Twenty-four steers
consigned by Johnston Farms,
Bluevale, averaging 1301 lbs. sold
for an average of $94.12 with sales
to $113. Thirteen steers consigned
by Schmidt Brook Farms Inc.,
Woodstock, averaging 1392 lbs.
sold for an average of $95.14 with
sales to $111.25. Twenty-eight
steers consigned by Gerald Giesel,
Elmira, averaging 1405 lbs. sold
for an average of $95.79 with sales
to $111. Thirteen steers consigned
by Ken Eadie, Holyrood, averaging

As the business year draws to a
close, thoughts turn to Registered
Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP)
contributions.
In mid-January, a new instrument
will be on the shelf called the
Agricultural Guaranteed Invest-
ment Certificate.
These new GICs will be available
through local credit unions and
when pooled will be used to
provide farm loans for the purchase
of farm real estate, the construction
or improvement of farm buildings,

Fourteen heifers consigned by

by Randy Pentland, Goderich,
the purchase of movable farm
machinery and equipment, the
consolidation of farm debt and off-
farm related, value added ventures
in rural Ontario.
The Agricultural GICs are made
available under OMAF's Rural
Loan Pool Program. The program
encourages rural residents to invest
in their own communities and at the
same time farmers will have
improved access to credit.
OMAF will be providing a partial
guarantee on loans made to
qualifying applicants. The loan
limit has been set at $500,000 to
target small and medium sized
farms and other rural businesses.

will depend on the province wide
sale of Agricultural GICs. There
are no limits to the amount a person
can invest in Agricultural GIC's
under the program, however, sales
provincially cannot exceed $50
million.
