Christmas Bureau asks for donations "Christmas is coming quickly and I ask everyone to make a donation at your local Christmas Bureau. Extend a caring hand to the estimated 1050 children who need help in Huron County this Christmas," so says Thomas F. Knight, executive director. According to organizers, the Huron County Christmas Bureau needs your help. There are more children than ever before who will not have any gifts under their tree without assistance from the Christmas Bureau. Bureau organizers are worried that there will not be enough to care for the anticipated 1050 children who need help. Cash donations are less than half of what they were at this time last year," says Sue Munnoch. "We depend upon community members to be generous, to care for others and to make a donation of toys, clothing or money at their local bureau." The Bureau is a private and confidential service designed to assist families in need over the Christmas period by providing gifts of clothing, toys and warm mittens for their children as well as helping with Christmas dinner. Join with churches, school children, service clubs and businesses to provide Christmas for the 1050 children and 550 families expected to be served this year. The local bureau needs gifts for children of all ages. Financial donations are received gratefully and income tax receipts are given. The Huron County Christmas Bureau is in the following locations: Wingham, Sacred Heart Catholic Church; Goderich, Knox Presbyterian Church; Clinton, Wesley-Willis United Church; Seaforth, Bethel Bible Church and Exeter, Christian Reformed Church. Local bureaus are open to receive donations from Dec. 13 to 17, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Children's Aid Society, along with many volunteers, continues to sponsor this worthy program on behalf of the community as it provides a very warm and special Christmas for many. On Sunday, Nov. 28 the Auburn Missionary Church had a ladies quintette consisting of Lorraine Carne, Diane Baan, Madeline Burchell, Bev Walden and Marilyn Campbell. Their rendition of "There's a Song in the Air" ushered in the Christmas season. Pastor Carne's message, "A Fatal Flaw" was from Acts 4: 36 - Acts 5: 11. In this passage of scripture it tells of the seriousness of a scandal in the church. What do we learn from this, asked Pastor Came? There is a seriousness about the things of God and you don't trifle with God, he said. In this scripture we see complacency as Annanias and Sapphires were self-satisfied or pleased with what they had done, but if Christ is not Lord of all, He is not Lord at all, said Pastor Came. Often we are not serious about the things of God, he said. It's the little things that snare us away from Learning French makes a world of difference Knox marks beginning of Advent Rev. Paul Ross conducted the service at Knox United Church, for the first Sunday of Advent. Bernice Gross was organist. Rev. Ross gave words of welcome and the Invitation to Worship chorus, "The Advent of our God" was sung. Rev. Ross gave the Prayers of Approach and Confession. The Advent carol of praise "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus" was sung. Rev. Then in Acts 4: 36-37 the congregation read of Joseph, surnamed Barnabas, who was an encourager. Arc we encouragers, especially at home, asked Pastor Came? The test is: Are we living for others? Do we ever back down even when right or can you take a loss on your pride? Emergency rooms in jeopardy Continued from page 1 Association and the Ministry of Health, by providing a global solution and changing the OHIP fee schedule to reflect the demands of emergency on-call. "(Our) hospitals, one-by-one, are being picked off by local arrangements," he said. His statements echoed Dr. Conlon's warning. "There's a danger in jumping to close one hospital emergency to prop up the other four. It is better to look at the total scenario, where certain hospitals do certain things." He gave the example of the psychiatry services that are offered at Goderich hospital. Likewise, other county hospitals could specialize in certain services, such as obstetrics, surgery or emergency, thus better utilizing their staff and expertise. The future of hospital health care, he said, "has to be a comprehensive picture and emergency is only part of it."
