People
This Saturday members of the
Brussels Melville Church Youth
Groups will be walking the parade
route to collect donations of non-
perishable food items from the
spectators lining the streets. The
goods will be taken to the Huron
County Christmas Bureau.
The Bureau is established each
year to help make Christmas
brighter for needy families and
children.
An early Christmas dinner
including baked ham, roast, beef,
roast turkey and all the trimmings
as well as plum pudding and sauce
and numerous other desserts was
thoroughly enjoyed by Erma
Brighton, Doreen Dale, Jean
Noemer and Mildred Jacklin who
travelled with Cherrey Bus Lines to
the Timberlane Estates resort near
Putnam on Nov. 25.
This was followed by a two hour
Christmas theme musical and stage
show at the spacious lodge and
summer resort soon to be open the
year round. The weather was nice
as well.
The regular meeting of Morning
Star Rebekah Lodge, Brussels took
place on Nov. 23 at 8 p.m. There
was a good attendance.
The charter of the lodge was
draped in loving memory of Freda
Pipe who passed away on Nov. 12.
Plans were made to enter a float
in the Santa Claus Parade on Dec. 4
at 3 p.m. Tickets are being sold on
a Christmas surprise box.
The next regular meeting will be
held on Dec. 14.
After the singing of "0 Canada"
with Alf Sutton at the piano, the
Friendship Club held two minutes
silence in respect for Freda Pipe.
Vice President Sarah Stephenson
opened the meeting with a very
meaningful reading "If Jesus Came
to your House". The secretary and
treasurer's report was read and
adopted. A donation of $25 will be
given to the Santa Claus parade.
No new president was named for
the coming year so the club decided
to carry on for a nother year with
the office of president being
rotated. Vice President Sarah
Stephenson volunteered to take the
office for the next two or three
months. Martha Logan volunteered
to obtain the prizes for the
meetings.
Marguerite Thomas, the public
health nurse with the Huron County
Health Unit spoke on the many
opportunities available to seniors in
this area such as gracious dining,
Meals on Wheels, pedicare
treatment, Wheels Away, etc.
An interesting and informative
meeting was held. Susan Walinick
London Ont. Health and
Community Society who works
mostly in Huron explained long
term care services and a new multi
service agency which will be in
effect in 1994.
The second speaker was the
pharmacist from Harriston who
explained the care that should be
taken of new medications with
proper storage.
The final speaker was an officer
of 25 years from the OPP Mount
Forest Detachment.
Euchre followed. Winners were:
high man, Doris Hooper, low man,
Ruby Steiss; high lady, Martha
Logan and low lady, Mary Lowe.

"Describe one holiday plant you
normally have in your home," was
answered by 11 members.
Mary's aunt Tante Annie, from
Holland was a guest at the meeting.
She showed how to make trees
from driftwood and a flat rock.
Members used eucalyptus leaves
for one and dried flowers for
another. Everyone made their own
craft, either from driftwood or
grapevine.
A club name was decided upon.
The name is "Creative Hands''.
Everyone was asked to come up
with a little page picture to match
the club name.
The meeting ended with a draw
for a small tree made by Tante
Annie. The winner was Rachel
VanderSterre. Everyone congratu-
lated Rachel and Heather Douma
thanked Tante Annie for showing
her neat ideas.
The third meeting of the Brussels
II Creative Hands was held at the
home of Wilma Rammeloo on Oct.
19 at 7 p.m. It opened with the 4-H
pledge. Eleven members answered
the roll call.
They started a bread called
"Christmas Tree Surprise". While it
was rising they discussed
Christmas traditions in homes and
read about other countries and their
traditions. When the dough was
done rising, they all put toppings in
their own ball of dough, then baked
it.
