Brussels Squirts
lose by 1
Brussels Squirts travelled to
Goderich July 23. Despite some
good competitive play they were
unable to take the win from the
home team. The fmal score was 11-
10.
The top of the first saw a strong
Goderich pitcher strike out the side,
while Mike Cooper allowed just
one hit in the home half.
It was doughnuts again in the
second for the visitors, who
stranded two, but Goderich got on
the board with one off a lead-off
walk. Brussels came on like
gangbusters in the third with a
three-run inning.
Joshua Gropp doubled home
Mike Cooper and Trevor Wilson.
After a walk to Patrick Gilkes,
Terry Nicol doubled to score a run
before the home team retired the
side.
Two runs by Goderich tied it in
the third, then after a one, two,
three, top half, the home team
added two more in the fourth.
Brussels turned it around in the
fifth scoring four while pitcher
Terry Nichol, who came in for
Mike Cooper, allowed just two hits.
Crossing the plate for Brussels
were Cooper, Wilson, Gropp and
Nichol.
Brussels failed to add any
insurance in the sixth, while an
aggressive Goderich team tagged
on six more. The final out came
when Mark Kroll caught a line
drive to third.
The visitors failed in a comeback
bid with Cooper, Wilson, and
Gilkes scoring to finish the top of
the seventh down by one.
