Brussels Livestock Report 939 goats and sheep on offer Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending April 10 were: fed cattle, 811; cows, 237; veal calves, 66; sheep and goats, 939; and stockers, 1,495. The steers and heifers sold on a good strong active trade with cows selling $2 higher. There were 622 steers on offer selling from $98 to $103 to the high of $118.75. Forty-five steers consigned by Mac Willits, Wingham, averaging 1400 lbs. sold for an average of $100.76 with sales to $118.75. Eleven steers consigned by Jim Howatt, Londesboro, averaging 1316 lbs. sold for an average of $108.77 with sales to $116.25. The people taking the course were from Huron and Perth Counties. Margaret McMahon, chairperson for the evening, had the 10 different groups arrange a display table of the items which were made at the course. Those in attendance were entertained by two guest speakers, the first being Linda Stewart from Blyth Decorating in Blyth. She and husband Don have a full service of Benjamin Moore paints, wall, floor and window coverings. Mrs. Stewart first showed a short video on window treatments, painting walls with various highlights, window blinds and using the right paint for the right job. She answered questions then gave helpful hints on decorating. The group was then given the opportunity to describe the displays, which were amazingly all from different colours and designs. Marjory Humphries accompanied by Margaret Mclnroy on the piano, $105.35. The next speaker was Lynn Bannerman from "The Brick Wall" in Blyth. She has gifts, crafts, ceramics and floral supplies and also teaches lessons in crafts. Her demonstration on how to make a dried floral arrangement was laced with tidbits of information on making and caring for your floral arrangement as decor accents. She gave suggestions on size, colour and placing of your floral arrangement in a room. Marjory Humphries told the group to consider the two courses available this fall - Entertaining with a Flair and Bread Making. It is necessary to have 14 groups in order for the courses to be taught and she needs to know by District Annual time. The singing of the Queen closed the meeting and all gathered downstairs for refreshments and visiting. Ruth took a few people at a time to the kitchen and they dyed wool, while the rest worked on slippers.
