Tonight is Hallowe'en. We hope that it is
nice weather wiSe and everyone has fun
gathering treats. It is always nice to see the,
boys and girls from the farms join those in
Ripley to travel the streets,
Betty (Blackwell) Fraser and Ron Chew
of Lurnby, British Columbia, are visiting
with her parents Stan and Doris Blackwell
• on the Fourth Concession, Hunin Township
•and also with her brother Bobliflackwell, his
wife Carol and their family Bob, Shannon
and Sandra attheir farm two blocks south of
Ripley. LumbY is a town in the beautiful and
bountiful Okanagan Valley - well-known for
its fruit crops.
Starting on July 27 Ron and Betty motored
back to Ontario. and since their arrival they
• have visited Ottawa? Kingston, and London.
Still to come is'ktrip to Manitoulin. Island,
Betty reports.
Road to recovery •
Lila Tranter of Ripley has had successful
heart by pass _surgery in the University
Hospital in London, and is now on the road to
recovery. , •
•• Ripley reunion program
... The Reunion '85 Committee held their
Meeting on October 1, at Ripley Huron
Central School. The program is nearing
completion and should be printed before the
end of this year.
- Plans for a 'Reunion Quilting Contest in
partnership with the Pine River Cheese
Factory Anniversary Quilting Contest were
• discussed -with Barbara Farrell.
The next Meeting will be held'On Nov. 5, at
8:00 p.m. Ripley Huron Central School.

JOHN:MERVYN HOOEY
John Mervyn Hooey passed away last
Saturday morning October 27, 1984 in
Kincardine and District Hospital. Mervyn
was in his 413rd year,: born in Huron
Township on Tnesday, March 11; 1902. His
parents were William Hooey and Susan
Rutherford. The funeral service was held at
2 p.m. on Monday, October 29 in the
MacKenzie McCreath Funeral Home in
Mervyn will be remembered as an
industrious and intelligent farmer on the 4th
•Concession of Huron Township. Back in the
•years when muscle power (men and horses)
were used, he foresaw the day of
mechanized farming with tractors,common
and no horse teams used. Several years ago
he and Lenore retired to live inRipley in the
Johnston house on Huron' or Main Street
south. A year age they moved to Kincardnie.
Sympathy is extended to the family at this
time of bereavement• •

George Samuel Emersoriof PurpleGrove,
Con. 12 east in Huron ToWnShip passed away
early Thursday morning October 25,1984, in
Brucelea Haven, in Walkerton after a
lengthy illness. George Was in his 81st year.
Born in Huron Township on Saturday, May
28, 1904, his parents were George A. '
Emerson and Frances Montgomery. The
funeral service was held tilt the MacKenzie
McCreath Funeral Home in Ripley at 2 p.m.
on Saturday, Oct, 27 with Rev. Glen
Macpherson of St. Andrews United Church
in Ripley officiating. Interment was in
Ripley Cemetery. •
- On Friday evening at 7 p.m. a Masonic
service was held at the Funeral Home by the ,
Northern Light Lodge Number 93. Memorial
donations to the Purple Grove Conununity
Centre were received at the Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife the former
Marion IVI, Bell, two sons, Dr. Jim Emerson -
of Lambeth .and Bob. Emerson at' Purple ,
Grove, two grandchildren Susan and Frank,
one sister Geraldine and one brother Joe of •
the North Boundary of Huron Twp., just one
block north of Purple Grove. Sympathy is
