required a vehicle to transport Jane, her
, doctor in haste, had for roany years,. ample
- children and their belongings. As if it had
been made for such an occasion, Jane
remembered the existence of the ideal
mode of transportation.
When the doctor was called away one
day to the neighbouring. village of Mono
Mills, Jane visited Lucy Lockhart.
"I have need of -a coach like the one your
father brought here," she told the girl. "I
have noticed , it has been left standing
without use:" "
"You are most welcome to borrow it,"
Lucy •said. "And the horses. too if you
require them."
"You must allow .me to pay you the full
cost of both the coach and the. horses,"
Jane told her sheepishly. "Just in case•I do "
• not return."
Lucy Lockhirt was very suspicipus cf
Jane's strange iequest, and although not

prone to prying into other people's affairs,
she thought it wise to inform the Reverend
Duncan MacLeod of the conversation. In
view of Jane's last exit from Redtrees
without announcement, the minister hur-
ried to the doctor's house, but on the way
invited Neil MacCrimmon to accompany
him. They arrived in time to see Jane's
cousin hurriedly loading the ,coach in
preparation for leaving.
"What on earth are . you doing?"
MacLeod asked the man. "Is .the doctor
award of your intended departure with his
wife?"
The man was. not used to being
addressed so rudely, especially by a back-
• woodsman, .even if he did look like a
•
parson.
"1 do not think it is any of your concern,
mister," he said with a disdainful lear. "1
do not have to ask your permission."
•-"Ye'd bestianswer the Reverend wi". a
civil tongue,' MacCrimmon said .menac-
ingly. "Or drag we off that' coach and
beat the hell out of ye!"
"Very well then," the man said. "If you
wish to know, I am taking Mrs. Cameron to
Toronto at her request. This 1 is a free
country, and whether you like it or not, she
•is going!"
MacCrimmon took a pace forward with
his hands clenched as if he was about to
carry out his threat to beat the man, but
MacLeod restrained him,
"Unfortunately, Neil, what the man said
is correct. We have no power to stop Mrs.
Cameron if she wishes to go."
Thus it was that Jane Cameron left her
husband for the second time.
Auburn Falcons continue winningways
At. •the start of the Blyth broomball

league. However at the ostart of this year,
the Falcons have , only nine players
returning from last year's ''13" champion-
ship team. If the results from the first week
of action are any indication, then Auburn is
still a team to be reckoned with.
