Women's Institute and folks from the area enjoyed the annual bus trip on Monday. A tour of the In-. terforest factory at Durham, Participation Lodge at Holland Centre, Thea Thomson Art. Gallery at Owen Sound and a visit to Inglis Falls as well as shopping and dinner proved to be an interesting day out. A group ,from . Purple Grove was among those who had supper at the Legion Hall in Ripley on Thursday night, the wind up of the season for the "Shuffleboarders". Marjorie Thompson and Katherine Collins. represented the Purple Grove W.I. at the Fall Rally held at Tara last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. John Farrell, along with other sheep growers in the area, attended the Shepherd's Ball on Friday evening spon- sored by the Sheep Association of District 2. • Weekend ` visitors with Marjorie Thomspon were Ned, Elaine and Lisa Cote of, Owen. Sound. Also visiting. last Tuesday were Agnes Hodgins of Kinlough and her daughter Irlma Gexiera of Vancouver. Seven 441 members and their leaders, Margaret Lane and Deanna Scott met on Friday morning at the Scott home. The pro- ject is Creative Quilting. and the girls have chosen "The Looney Loopers" as their 'club name. • Tobi Farrell visited on Thursday in Ripley with Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh and her pister Teresa spent Friday evening there. The McCosh's had dinner on Saturday with, John. and Joyce Farrell and girls. .• Contribution to Arthritis Society is X2,800. Katherine Collins and Marjorie Thompson attended a tea on. Sunday in honour of Vicki Young at the home of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Young of Kinloss. Get well wishes go to Maureen Collins who is spending a few daysin hospital. Visiting at the Collins home are Mr: and Mrs. Sam Green of Arthur. Mr, and Mrs. Jim Farrell, Christina, Carmen and .Jamie visited on. Friday with Fran's.aunt and uncle, Mr. and Ivirs, Doug Dam and family in Guelph and also with Mr. and Mrs. Derk Logtenberg and family of Dungannon Sunday. Mr. and Mrs,' Jack Farrell visited on Sun- day evening with Mr. and Mrs. • Robert Rutledge and Vicki in Kincardine. Alex and Catherine. Andrew of Lucknow represented the local branch of the Canad- ian.Arthritis Society when they presented a . cheque in the amount of $2;823, represent- , ing the proceeds • of the. local 1984 campaign, at the Bluewater Region meeting of The Arthritis Society. Mary Guse, Field Representative for the Bluewater Region announced that the total revenue from this "year's campaign am- ounted to 5127,466.00.: She congratulated. all those volunteers in attendance at the, gathering and encourgged them to con- tinue' their fine efforts on behalf of the Society. Guse reported that over 1,100 patients had been seen at the Rheumatic Diseases Units' over the yearswhere the average stay was . approximately 18 days. Eighty- two patients in the Bluewater Region are currently on the Home Service Program. During the past two years the Society has provided over 380 home .therapy visits. . Mauri Vallee, Director of Field Services, Ontario Division stood in, representing, The Honourable Campbell Grant, at a meeting of "volunteers.. representing some fifty communities gathered from the Bluewater Region of The Arthritis, ,Society. The Honourable Camptiell Grant is ; a member of the Ontario Baord ' of The Arthritis Society, and Chairman of the Bluewater Region. In his • remarks, Vallee praised the volunteers . for ' their excellent . support pointing to the fact that many of the communities have been conducting cam - pales for ampaignsfor ;The. Arthritis Society for the last seventeen years. He commented on the benefits of investing their charitable time in support of arthritis research.
