, A few days after the funeral, Lucy
Lockhart visited the partially built cabin she
was to have shared with her father. She. was
bundled up with clothes and the chill of the
wind had : brought the ;colour back . to her tl
cheeks. Teddy Murdoch was delighted to see
her. She hadnot spoken one word to him.
since the day rof the dreadful accident.
"You intend to finish the place then,

••
Mister Murdoch?" she said, rather shyly. "I
am,surprised Mister MacCrlmmpn still finds
it worth the effort. -
,
"Oehl,. aye. `Twill be ' finished, even
though ye may never get tae live in it, There
are lots of mare people here . who will be
needing a roof 'over their heads."
"I . ampleased to hear. that," Lucy said,
and . yet a look of disappointment clearly
showed on her face. "I was secretly looking
forward toliving in a new home," She
looked ' at thehalf built structure with a
strange whimsical expression. "I will not
'have a home', now, will -.I?''''
Teddy was touched by her sadness and
tried to lift her; spirits. "Ye willalways hae a
home, Lucy. Home is where the heart is, and
I hope ye heart will always stay here with us,
at Redtrees."
