On Monday August. 6 the Murray. and.
Sutton relatives gathered , at the Township.
hall at Holyrood to honour three brides -to-
be, namely Judy Hallam, Carrie Allen. and
Karen Schiestel who later will become the
brides of Wayne, Brian and Paul Murray,
sons of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Murray,
concession 10.
This was indeed a very happy and unique
occasion, to be looking forward- to three
weddings in the Murray family and a nice
• way tocombine in showering the girls. We
all join in extending our best wishes tothese
fine young folks and heartily welcome the.
• girls to our community. i •
Thursday afternoonwas the . annual.
. A.C.W: and. Sunday School fun day .at the
church for young as well as the young -at -
heart.. Mrs. David Haldenby and . Mrs..
Midford Wall were conveners and extended
a hearty welcome to all.
' . Edna: and May Boyle began the afternoon
leading a sacred sing along. Each child was
asked to. tell of an exciting or funny thing
that -happened to them. Then the., adults had
to tell of . one of their most embarrassing
ti moments.
Lynda Thacker led the: children in a prayer
in song. May Boyle offered prayer and 'the
grace and Agnes ` 1odgins, on behalf of all
thanked the conveners.
Rob, Mary Lynn and Chris Dales of Smiths
Falls have been visiting here with the

Brett Thompson has a new baby sister.

The Holyrood Women's Institute meeting
was a delicious pot luck supper on Thursday
.evening at the home of Mrs.. Raynardl
Ackert. Mrs. Charles ,Murray presided.. '
The assistant secretary, Mrs ' Orrie
Gingrich, read ' the minutes. of the May,
meeting and the trip to Owen Sound in June
and to Milton in July. It was decided to have
a display at the tucknow Falb Fair. Mrs.
'Gerald Murray reported on -the- bus' trips.
A Bicentennial 'meeting will be held, on
August 21. Mrs. Lorne Eadie was in charge
of the program and gave the history of
Ontario and Mary Eadie conducted a
provincial quiz.
Mrs. Orrie Gingrich- and her daughter
Amy favoured • with a musical number on
their autoharp ' and flute. ` Mrs. Raynard
Ackett gave, reading. The Tweedsmuir book
was on display.
Mrs. Frank.Maulden gave a reading by H.
Gordon' Green, Orange • Crates, and Mrs.
Lorne Eadie read, Growing Old, by Ann
Landers. .

I'- Chris and Bella Todd, Christy and. John of
Turner Lake;, Saskatchewan spent a few
days `with Kay Collins' and the John Collins'
• at the farm near Purple Grove.
Other visitors at the Collins' during the
week were Evelyn Embury of Roseneath,
Bernice Flett of London, Maurice Schmidt
of Los Angeles, Helen • and Jerome Schmidt
of Mildmay, Sandra and Ed McGillivray,
Kelly and. Kristy of Ripley and. Margie and
Dane-Lochhead, Shauna and Rachel of
Kincardine.
Monday evening the Collins' were .dinner
guests of Largret and Bill McInnes of
Teeswater and, visited with Ron and Ruth
Dore, Krista, Darryl and Tracy.
Joyce Farrell and girls were visiting with
'.Steven and Jan Elliott of Minden from
Thursday to Sunday. John and Joyce Far-
rell andgirls attended a lamb barbecue . at
• Clayton and Brenda Farrell's on Sunday.
Bible Study. Group met at the home of Jess
Meekin's last Tuesday and at Anne . Mc -
Cosh's this Tuesday. .
All mothers, 'past and present, of Purple
Grove community are reminded of . the An-
nual Picnic on. Aug. 19 at the centre.
Barbecue and potluck are plannedand
assorted games and events. Period
costumes 'appreciated. Please bring your

Friends and neighbours gathered for an
old-fashioned picnic Wednesday evening at
Don and Anne McCosh's for . supper, ball
game and sing -a -long.
Megan MacDonald celebrated her fourth
birthday on Friday last week.
Andrew Y. MacDonald attended Wicklan'
Hall Riding School, Owen Sound last week.
On Sunday the MacDonalds visited with

1WI�,ssianacry Society. meet in Ripley
The June meeting of the Women's Mis-
sionary Society of Knox Presbyterian Chur-
ch, Ripley, was held at the hbme of Bette
MacLeod following a delicious potluck lun-
cheon. Hazel MacDonald opened. the
meeting, with a poem and a prayer. Hallelu-
jah, Thine the Glory was sung with Miner-
va Stewart at the organ. '
Fifteen members answered the roll call
by naming something they couldsdo to make
the life of an elderly person more pleasant.,

Helen McCreath of the Evening Auxiliat`y
gave a splendid report on the Synodical held
recently in Wingham. Prayer followed by
Adeline Hackett. A poem, The Lord is My
Pace -Setter was read by Gladys Huston.
The Scripture reading and meditation were
delivered by Sadie MacLeod.
An African Creed was read by Frances
Nugent. The topic, The church at Worship
was given by Marie Lowry, from the basic
book Journey of Struggle, Journey in ope,
a story of people and their pil ge in
' Central Africa. This was followed by singing
"God is Love".
A short business meeting followed.
Courtesy remarks were graciously given by
Gertrude MacKay. There will be no
meetings in July or August.
