Quilter wins heritage competition,

.• :fourth annnal Heritage Quilt, Show. Her en-
try was one of approximately 30 in the
• masters Category.
Ihere were three categories of cOmPeti-
tion.• quilts. The Masters, quilts are those
created by very proficie4t quilters and were
. judged by professionals. The original hand-
:, KitChed competitionis for all hand -stitched
• - quilts and is judged by vcsitOrt ballot. There
was also a novelty competition and a Special
feature in this year's show was' a Bi-
centennial. block -contest. There were 11 anti-.
quequilts as well as the competition quilts,
This is the first time Jean. has entered the.
competition. Other winners hi her category
were Maine Machuletz of Ingersoll and Iona
Ballantyne. of Stratford, honourable men-
tion.

Jean's entry was the fang -of friendship
done , on a beige background with the
handles Of the fans in brown- and the fans in
prints. The quilt was sold this p_ast weekend
at the Ripler4Craft Festival via competi-
tion.

Legionnaires trounce Arthur
Arthur Intermediates were in town July 13
for an 18 - 3 trouncing by the Lucknow
Le.gionnaires. The score was tied at. two
each' until the fourth inning when • the
Lucknow boys broke it -open, scoring seven
Doug. Stevenson, Randy Alton had three
hits each while Hugh Todd went three for
four including a two run homer_
Ray Cranston and Todd pitched well
• 'through the first' • eight innings •while
"Goose" Stevenson came in and threw
smoke inthe ninth. •
••Brussels Juniors travelled to Lucknow on
July 19 for a four point game in which
•'Lucknow won 6-1. Cranston held the
Brussels team off the scoreboard fo'r the
first three innings and started the offense
with •a three run homer. Don Bogie added
two hits and held Brussels to one run on the
mound.
Lucknow lost :their secOnd game of the
season to Bluevale on July 20 due to a heavy
rain in the ninth, inning. The Legionnaires
• tied the game seven all With a two run
• homer' from' Tom Pegg in the top of the
• eighth inning. Steve Berry hit a' two run
homer in the top of the ninth and Lucknow
led 8-7. With one out in Bluevale's last at bat;
• the rain came and the game was called back
to the eighth which gave 13luevale the win.

Benmiller Inn. On Saturday 'evening they
enjoyed dinner with Carol's parents, Bob

residence. Dinner guests included Carol's

On July 25 Lucknow lost their first game
Of the seasoritO Chepstow•11-6, Justin Mur-
ray, pitched for Lucknow. and had a hit. Rob
Chrich homered and' Brad Rhody, Dwayne
Porter, Jason and ,Chad Stanley each had
hits for Lucknow. •
On July 26 Lucknow captured first, place
in, their league by defeating Port Elgin 7-6.
Chris Stevenson went tbe distance on the
• mound allowing four hits, striking out 20
• batters and walking five. He aLSo had two'
hits including a horner.
Joel Sutton batted in the 'vvinning rin
• while Brad Rhody, Justin Murray and Keith
Todd each had a hit. •

answered three- calls this week. A com-
pressor motor fire in a barn owned by Van'
Oenen Farms Inc. Ashfield Township on
• Monday caused no ,damage, as the fire was
*out by . the time firemen arrived on the
scene.

fin. in Kinloss Township Monday afternoon
caused considerable damage before it was
