Dies in Vancouver

Curtis died at the age of 85 in Van
couver on October 6th,
Mr, Curtie spent his early life
at Bluevale and was a brother of
the late Joseph CiArtis and the late
Mrs. Alex Messer,
He followed the lure of gold tn
the Klondike in 1898 and spent
many years in Dawson City, where
he operated a restaurant, later re-
tiring to Vaneouver. He was a
inember of Vancouver Yukonerie
Association,
The funeral service was held at
Vancouver, He is survived by his
wire and one daughter, Mrs, Pre-
toria ButterVvorth, of Dawson, and
five graridehildren.

group of the Canadian Girls in
Training met at the home, of their
leader, Mrs. Ted Fear; on Friday
evening and 'opened the meeting
with the Purpose and Scripture. Re-
ports were given by the secretary
and treasurer. The roll call was

the Children's Hymn.
The group decided to sponsor a
band concert, by the Wingham
Lions Club Boys' and Girls' Band,
to ,be held in the Foresters' Hall
on Sunday evening, November 1
at 8 o'clock.

The Couples Club of Wingharn
United Church met at the church
on Monday evening, and were then
taken on a tour of Fry & Black-
hall Ltde, conducted by Geerge
Guest and Don Rosenhagen, There
Were 16 couples on the tour, and
most 62 these people were amazed
to see the amount of skilled labor
that goes into ethe making of a
chesterfield or other upholstered
furniture. Well over an hour pase-
ed very quickly at the factory.
The • couples returned to the
church for a short worship Service.
A hymn was sung and Wilford Cas-
lick read the 90th Psalm, Lovell
McGuire offered prayer,
A work meeting will be held on
Saturday when the grounds at the
Church and parsonage will be
,cleaned up.

bearers especially in the downtown

said that while not perfect the
Canada Temperance Act had a lot
of good in et and asked the women
to do their part on Nov. 31.
Mrs. McVittie introduced Miss
Christina Baxter, missionary from
India. Mrs, Cruickshank showed
slides taken' by. Miss Baxter, who
in colouful sari narrated the
story of her work in Indore, India.
Mrs. Harry Rhame was organist
for the convention and also accom-

as guests of the Listowel C.W.L,
Fr. 'Graham, pastor of St. Anne's
parish, Listowel, said benediction
of the Blessed Sacrament, The
ladies then moved to the auditor-
ium where registration took place.
Mrs. Wilhelm, president, welcom-
ed all the ladies on behalf of the
Listowel Council.
Fr. Graham introduced the guest
speaker, Mrs. Kelly of Stratford,
past diocesan president of the Lon-
don Diocese. She gave a very
inspiring talk of the wonderful

established in Europe, 10 to 12
years ago,

The three graduating years, es-
pecially ,chos'en to be honored at
the functions being planned this
autumn are 1934, 1944 and 1954.
The class- of 1933-34 consisted of
297 students, The 1943-44 class had
88, and in 1953-54 there were 133
in attendance. The graduates ,and
their escorts, are' invited to renew
acquaintances at the reunion ban-
quet and ball.
Guest speaker for the banquet,
to -be held in the Victorian Inn,
Stratford, at 5,30 p.m, on Saturday
will be J. B. Healy, B.A., B.Paed.,
former acting-principal of the
Stratford Teachers' College and
now assistant superintendent of
Professional Development for the
Ontario Department of Education.
A special feature of the ball, to
be held in the Stratford Armoury
at 0 ,p,rn. is the -crowning of the Al-
emni Queen, elected by the 1959
graduating class. Not until the
crowning ceremony itself will it be
known which of the four -finalists
will be Queen. The four finalists

The Third meeting of the 4-H
Belmore Tidy Teens took place in
the Institute towns at Belmore on
Friday evening With 12 members
present, ,
The meeting opened with the
Pledge followed by the, roll call,
"One essential of a good clothes
closet". The minutes of the last
meeting were' read by the secret-
ary, Lorna Woods. This was fol-
lowed by the election of a new
vice-president in place of Muriel
Haskins, who has decided to dis-
continue.. Georgina Kieffer was
elected to succeed her,
The garment cover and covered
hanger were then discussed. Mrs.
Renwick shoaled the girls a velve-
teen covered hanger, which they
will be making at the next meet-
ing.
Mrs. Kieffer. demonetrated the
cutting and Making of the garment
cover and the girl§ began the work.
