TRY THIS NOVELTY,
BUBBLY ICE CUBES
Now that the party area has
moved indoors from the backyard,
why not try this colourful new
Idea in party novelties—the bubbly
ice cube, It'll he a conversation
piece during the upcoming festive
Aeasfin,t00....
This carbonatOci ice is really
quite simple to make, Just pre-
chill the bottle thoroughly,. then
pour the contents slowly into an
lee •cube• tray and freeze as usual.
Less time is required to freeze this
than plain water—and thotigh the
cubes seem softer than ordinary
ice, they actually last as long. AS
they slowly melt, they twinkle and
bubble, keeping your .dirink lively
and cold 'to the very last drop
without diluting it!
The beverage cubes may match
or contrast with the flavor of the
drinks you are serving. Fill glass-
es with the cubes and serve the
companion chilled beverage in un-
opened bottles—letting each guest
pour his own.
For planned, entertaining, when
you want ,something special, yod
might like to flavor the cubes
still further, for example:
Cola-Peach Cubes
1 cup mashed canned peaches
2 tablespoons lemon juice
'14 cup sugar'
Bottled cola, chilled
Mix together the peaches, lemon
juice, sugar and about one cup of
the cola. Put in ice cube tray.
Fill tray with additional cola up
to about half inch from the top.
Set control to coldest and freete.
Serve with bottles of chilled cola
beverage.
Pink Frost Cubes
14, cup 'currant jelly
2 tablespoons lemon juice
ik cup water
Bottled ginger ale or lemon-
lime soft drink, chilled
Put jelly and lemon juice and
water jnto a small saucepan, Heat,
stirring, until jelly completely
melts. Pour into freezing tray and
cool. When cold, fill tray to about
half inch from the top with chilled
carbonated beverage,
Turn control to coldest, and
freeze. ,
Serve , with chilled bottles of
either ginger ale or lemon-lime
beverage.

Chief Jim Carr spent a day at
home after a nasty fall which oc-
curred when he was on duty at a
fire on Sunday morning. The bri-
gade had been called to a car
which had taken fire on Victoria
Street and as the chief' jumped
from the fire truck the pump con-
trol handle 'caught one foot. He
fell heavily to the ground, but for-
tunately his injuries were confined
to a bruised hip and arm,

Glancing back through the re-'
cords, it is rather interesting to
note that in 1932 the brigade con-
tained only two firemen who are
still active members, Jim Carr and
Harvey Aitcheson.'

A fireman's first duty is to pro-

assistance if you leave the fire
truck an unhindered access to the
scene of the fire and room to work
