PROPOSE RIVER-
SITE FOR PARK
On Monday evening a meeting of
the sWinniting poet 'committee was
held and those present adjourned
to' the Maitland River at the north
end :of town to look over the pos-
eibillties of cleaning up the section
of river bank from the Howson
dam to the MeKenzie bridge, 'It
was felt by several members that
=a -couaPai'allvelY• • mall, Rxprnad I IA ro.
in this area would provide temnor-
ary swininting accommodation for
pm children of the community,
• The•water level in the upper pond
is very low • at the present time,
;Mice the pond: has been virtually
drriined to allow removal of the eel
CPR, bridge pilings, This work is
to commence at once.
The PBC has already been ask-
ed to investigate the possibility of
making such repairS to the How-
son dam ,as will permit the instal-
lation of proper gates so that the
water level can be 'raised enough
to allow for boating on the pond
and prevent stagnation of the wa-
ter,
The proposal to improve the sec-
tion of river bank between the
two hridgeS was ,made 'with the
thought that It is a natural place
for a public park and improve-
ments could he continued over a
period of years. Those who fa-
vor the area as a swimming spot
feel 'that with a •minimuna• of ex-
pense the foreshore aild' river bot-
tom can be cleaned of Weeds and
debris while the water level is at
the. present low point.
Due to the fact that attendance
at Monday night's meeting was not
sufficiently large to 'permit final
decisions, another meeting has
been set 'for Thursday evening of
this
The Right' Rev. Dr. Alexander
Nimmo, newly-elected' moderator
of the General Assembly of the
Presbyterian 'Church in Canada,

wishing to attend the service in St,
