SCENES OF CHILDHOOD GORRIE—Larry Scales, zone-
forester for the Stratford district,
was guest speaker for the May
meeting of the Howlett Junior
Farmers, He was introduced' by.
Bob Strong.
Mr, Scales explained the purpose
of the zone forester and said that
he thought that in Ontario the
emphasis should be placed on
woodlot management instead of re-
forestation, as it is now. He then
showed two films, "Managing the
Woodlot" and "Shelter Belts on the
Prairies", He was thanked by John
Stafford for the address and show-
ing the films,
The roll call was "How many
acres of bush have you on your
farm " The meeting adjourned and
lunch was served,

of 'her 87th birthday which was on

The Woman's Auxiliary of St,
Stephen's Church has postponed its
meeting for one week owing to the
Huron Deanery meeting of the
W.A. falling on the Il'egular day,
May 21st. The W,A, will quilt in
the L.O.L. hall on Thursday, May
28th at 1.30 p.m.
Mr. and Mrs. 'Gerald Gray of
Sudbury were in town on Saturday
and Sunday. Mrs. Arthur Chapman
returned with them to Sudbury.

MIT AFFILIATES WITH
MISSIONARY SOCIETY
BELGRAVE—The regular meet-
ing of the Belgrave Evening Aux-
iliary of the Woman's Missionary
Society of Knox United Church,
was held in the church on Tues-
day evening of, last week with 19
members and two visitors present,
and the members of the C.G.I.T., as
this was their affiliation service
with the Evening Guild.
The president, Mrs. Gordon Bos-
man, was in charge and opened the
meeting with a hymn followed by
the Lord's prayer in unison. The
minutes and roll call were read
by Mrs, Clarence Hanna and the
treasurer's report by Mrs. Robert
Grasby. There were five home and
13 hospital visits to the sick and
shut-in recorded, The group agreed
to buy the badges for the C.G.I.T.
members.
Mrs, Ted Fear, leader of the
C.G.I.T., was in charge of the next
Part of the meeting and read a
poem, after which the girls re-
peated their pledge and the affili-
ation took place at this time. This
was followed by their hymn. The
Scripture lesson was read by Mur-
iel Campbell and prayer by Lillian
Pengelly, Patsy Logan read "The
Aim" of the girls.
Mrs. Clifford Logan extended the
invitation to affiliate with the Aux-
iliary and expressed how pleased
the group was to have them join.
Mrs, Gordon Borman explained the
symbols of the badges and' pre-
sented them to the girls.
Linda Johnston favored with a
vocal solo, accompanied by Mrs.
George Johnston, A film, 'The Dres-
den Story" was enjoyed. This was
followed by a cornet duet by ,Thyce
Procter and Ruth Michle, Another
film., "The Better Lot", was shown.
Mrs, Eldon Cook's group was in
charge 'of the. recreation and lunch
was served.

inthians, chapter 13, followed with
prayer by Mrs, Anderson.

people from foreign lands who
come to Canada, and spoke parti-
cularly on the Chinese and Hun-
garians, The offering was received
and the Glad Tidings prayer fol-
lowed, by Mrs. Edgar Wightrnan.

age, who went to -Gordo Public
School together more than 05 years
ago, spent a couple of days in Gor-
rie last week renewing old ac-
quaintances. They were Arthur
Crawford, of West Summerland,
B.C, and William Sharpin. of Am--
prior, Ontario, a one-time editor

It is 50 years since Mr. Crawford
left Gorda and 50 years since Mr.
Sharpin moved away, They have
not met since, but have correspond-
ed the last few years and the visit
here was planned that they might
meet again.
Mr, Sharpin has returned several
times to visit his home town and
his address was secured by Mr,
Crawford in the list of visitors to
the. Howick Centennial. They
found many changes and few of
the old schoolmates. Mr. Crawford
