Purpose of the film, according
to B-A-art director Thor Hansen, is
to show how the creation of beauty
through handicrafts gives pleasure
and satisfaction to the leisure
hours of many Canadians.
The movke which features. an
original Canadian musical scOre
based on folk ,themes, traces the
development of Canadian crafts
from earliest times, showing the
contributions of . various' . ethnic
groups that came to this, countrY.
B-A's Canadiana program, began
in January, 1951„ with the openirig'
of the company's new Toronto head
office building, for 'which Mr. Han-
sen had designed an original Ca-
nadian interior decor.
As the company grew rapidly
during the postwar period, there
'were .more buildings for Mr, Han-
iien to decorate, and colorful book-
lets were issued showing the motifs
used in each.
He used authentic west coast
motifs to decorate B-A's Vancouver
office baiidiog and the administra-
tion building of the company's
new refinery at nearby Port Moody,
