MORE MISSIONARIES
NEEDED FOR RESERVES
The Februar.y meeting of the
Goforth Auxiliary was led by Mrs.
C. Cooper and her group, Mrs: K.
Leitch gave the call to worship, and
the devotiOnal part of the meeting
was taken by Mrs. Campbell. and
Mrs. C. Chittich. " ,
"The topic, 'handled by Mrs., COQ- .
per, Mrs, Mowbray and MrsAarr,
was a continuation of the study, of
Canadian Indians. , They, 'told of
the various ways of helping them,
and that the present ,pelicy, is. to
develop their skills to 'enable, them
to become self-supporting. Indians
should not be second class eitizenS,
but, ShOuld be just ordinarY Gen-
adian citizens. In speaking :of
them "integration" is the key word.
The group was told About ,Jci-
dians in Manitorm ape Saskatch-
ewan, and about many things still
to be . done in , the ' est, There
should be at least 'one'missionary
for every two' reserves. Medical,
services are urgently needed in all
areas. The Indians of. Manitoba
and Saskatchewan are • usually,
farming people, so that few work-'
ems have to travel long distances;
to care for them.. ,
The evening conference will be
in Montreal op May 2nd and 3rd,
It was felt that a delegate should
be sent from here and ways and
means were discussed fer• raisin*,
money for that purpqse. A Spedial
offering for that purpose Will be,,
taken at the March meeting. •
Mrs. Chittiek and Mrs, Carr gave*.
short sketches of two missionaries:
Miss Agnes Hiplop, who serves' in;
India and MisS If. Hermansion,.
who serves in Formosa as a regis-
tered nurse.
After the meeting Mrs. Chopin,'
assisted by. Dick Scott, showed,
pictures and gave some of *the'
highlights of her summer, travels
in Europe.
