the last annual meeting and the
financial report were read by the
secretary-treasurer, George John-

It was stated at this time that
the circulation was 1621, an in-
crease of over 200, Mrs, Ross An-
derson and Mrs. Albert Vincent,
auditors, gave their report. Karen
Anderson gave two vocal solos, ac-
companied by Mrs, Lawrence Van-
nan, representative, of Clinton, was the
guest speaker, He made some
worthwhile suggestions and offer-,
ed the fullest co-operation of the
Department at Clinton.
The financial report showed a
balance on hand of $349.76. Stew-
art Procter resigned as secretary-
treasurer after serving in that
office since 1946, he also served as
president from 1936 to 1946. Mr.
Procter promised to support and
help in promoting the fair in the
future as he had done in the past

IS NEW WARDEN
John Morrissey, the reeve of
Stephen Township, was elecfed
warden of the County of Huron at
the January session which opened'
in Gdderich last week, Five ballots
were required 'for the election, the
new warden defeating Reeve John
Durnin of West Wawanosh 17-16
on the final vote.
Four other reeves were also in
the running. They were Reeve
Orval Taylor, of East Wawanosh,
Reeve William McKenzie, of Ex-
eter, Reeve William Morritt, of
Blyth and Reeve John Deeves of
Goderich Township.
The new warden was escorted to
the chair by the. retiring warden,
Harry Gowdy, of Howick, who pre-
sented the chain of office and the
warden's key to Mr. Morrissey. .
Six New Members
A welcome was extended by the
ward to six members who are
sitting on county -council for the
first time. They are Alex Mouseau,
deputy reeve of Hay; Harvey Mc-
Michael, deputy reeve of Howick;
Harvey Taylor, first deputy reeve

BELGRAVE—The regular meet-
ing of the, Belgrave Women's In-
stitute was held on Tuesday after-
noon in the community centre with
the president, Mrs. Richard• Proc-
ter in charge of the business ses-
sion. It was decided to hold an-
other community dance and, card
party, playing progressive euchre
only, the end of January, Mrs. J.
M. Coultes is convener of this
party and lunch will be supplied.
Door keepers are to be Albert Vin-
cent and James R. Coultes and
prizes will be purchased by Mrs.
Stanley Cook and Mrs. Corax3ife-
Gill.
The W.I, agreed to sponsor 'the
Red Cross canvass in the com-
munity and the following collec-
tors were named: For the village,

Coultes; fourth line, Mrs. James

The meeting agreed to keep on
collecting pennies for Mental
Health at the meetings. It was also
decided to send t25 cents per 'mem-
ber to finance the A.C.W.W. dele-
gates and the F.W.I.O. budget.
The ladies were asked to take
articles suitable for layettes to be
sent to the Arab refugee babies.
Each layette consists of the fol-
lowing: 4 diapers, 2 nighties, 2
jackets, 2 shirts, 1 towel, 1 cake
laundry soap, 1 binder and 4 'safe-
ty pins. Sweaters and wool are
needed to send to Korean children.
The rug making course that was
postponed was planned for Janu-
ary 24th, Cards of thanks were
read from Mrs. Herb Wheeler,
Mrs. Stanley Cook and Mrs. Wil-
liam Brydges, The group decided
to cater to the Belgrave Co-Opera-
tive banquet to be held on March
18.
Mrs, Leslie Bolt was convener of
the program and the roll call was

Miss Edith Procter gave a reading
which',;Mrs. Clarence Hanna had
prepared. The address on "The
Romance of Nickel", was given by
