MARTON LEADS
SCORING RACE
Wingham Intermediates are sit-
ting somewhat sadly at the foot
of the list in the loop hockey stand-
ing-, as of last Thursday. At that
time Wiarton was out on top with
11 wins and only one loss for a
total of 22 points. The Chesley
juniors are. trailing Wiarton with
eight wins- and four' defeats for 18
points. Hanover
'
has .12 'points; Kin-
cardine 6; Port Elgin 2. Winghant
is in the basement with no Wins
and no points. -
The point system used for the
above is somewhat complicated by
the. fact .that this-lx., an interlock-
ing schedule and ratings for-wins
are changed on that „account.
Miller of Chesley is in lead posi-
tion as far as goals and assists are
concerned, with 50 points, followed
by Wilford, of Wiarton, 48; King-
ston, Chesley, 47; Davidson, Wiar-
ton, 43; Sehell, Port Elgin, 32; A,
Kreutzweiser, Wiarton, 28 and D.
Mercy, Hanover, 28.
DODGERS DROP TWO
TO HANOVER SQUAB
The Wingham, Crawford Dodg-
ers lost a heart-breaker in the
local arena last Wednesday, when
one of the better -crowds of the
season turned out to see the game.
The count at the end of regular
time stood at ten-all and in the 10-
minute, overtime stanza the visitors
cracked in one more to sew things
up.
Things remained on a fairly even
keel throughout the first period,
but it was in the second that the
blOw fell, With four markers scor-
ed by Hanover in quick succession.
However, the 'Wingham boys held
their dinainishing lead until there
were .only 20 seconds left to play.
At that paint Hanover notched the
tying goal to force the fatal over-
time
lVfahrice Stainton led the Wing-
ham Snipers two goals with single-
tons going to John Crewson, Dill
Lockridge and Ken Corson,
The Hanover squad left no
doubt about things in the return
game played on Hanover iCe on
Frida ,y evening, banging out a re-
souniiing 13-5 victory over the
CraWfbrd Dodgers,
Maurice Stainton opened fire for
Wingham after only 22 seconds of
play in the first frame, assisted by
Crewson, but his goal proved to
he the ,only Wingham, markti?'-of
the period; While Kroft and, Wen-
dorf each got in for' two with
singles going to York .and Clark.
Winghain Opened the action
