Tidings was read by Mrs. Freda
Scott, Mrs. Lottie Scott, Mrs.

Manger was sung.

by Mrs. Siertsema. Mr< Cloakey

NOW 'TIL CHRISTMAS
A new church
Members of the newly built Wingham Pentecostal Church in Morris Township get set to cut
the ribbon to officially dedicate the church Nov. 28. Members (left to right) Ed Stein, chairman
of the building committee, Harold Hutton, Tim Embling, Reverend David Loucks, Dave
Keating (young boy), Brenda White, Lome Humphrey and John Kerkhof have waited for this
moment since construction began in June 1991. The 85-member congregation outgrew its old
church in Wingham which has been sold to the Baptist Church.
Marj Coultes greets at church
The sanctuary of Knox United
Church, Belgrave was beautifully
decorated for the Christmas season
with two poinsettia arrangements.
Each window contained a silk
poinsettia arrangement. The
Christmas tree also looked lovely
with the many lights and various
decorations.
Mrs. Marj Coultes greeted
members and visitors as they
entered the church.
Mrs. Elizabeth Procter played
appropriate Christmas hymns on
the organ as a prelude to the white
gift service.
The confirmation class conducted
the worship service. Jayne Vincent
led the Approach to the People
which was followed by the hymn
Go Tell It On The Mountain.
Andrew Potter then led in prayer.
Karrin Marks read Isaiah 11: 1-6
after which everyone joined in the
singing of Away In A Manger.
The Junior Church members then
sang It Is No Longer I That Liveth
and The Drummer Boy. They were
accompanied by Mrs. Anne Spivey
at the piano and Mrs. Lila Procter
on the guitar. Harmony Spivey
played a drum and Nathan Spivey
played the triangle as special effect
for the Drummer Boy.
Jennifer Cook read the scripture
Matthew 3: 1-6. Jayne introduced
the next hymn which was Simply
Trusting Every Day.
Margie Gordon read a Mission
and Service Fund Story. The
United Church provides and staffs
hospitals for the native people of
the West Coast. On the East Coast
it provides and staffs schools and
clinics for out-ports and fishing
villages in addition to providing
downtown missions in cities and
food banks for the hungry.
Rev. Peter Tucker gave the
announcements and the offering
was received by Ken Procter,
Steven Nixon, Grace Carmichael
and Shawn Logan and dedicated.
Jayne then led in the Prayers of the
People after which the Lord's
Prayer was sung by all.
Ruth Gordon, Superintendent of
the Church School, gave an update
of the foster child Bernard Miuoki
from Kenya, Africa. With the funds
received at the white gift service to
support Bernard, projects such as
classroom construction, school
desks, provision of text books and
provision of first aid boxes have
been implemented.
A dramatic story, The Treasure
Hunt, was presentea by Justin
Black, Jamie McCallum and David
Piluke. These three young lads
were searching out God's gifts.
They were to find three gifts that
would help us live. Inside the three
boxes they found a banner
containing a scripture verse and a
symbol of sharing with others.
After giving the message much
thought they realized that giving is
a gift too.
While Gift Sunday is about more
than this one day. It is a reminder
of how to live and share God's
special love all the time. Marc
Alexander and Jennifer Black took
up the white gift offering. Lindsay
Michie then announced the final
hymn which was People of God in
Expectation Wait.
Jayne closed the service with the
benediction.
