B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 WMS read Christmas poems at meeting The W.M.S. met Monday, Nov. 30 at the home of Mrs. Freda Scott. Mrs. Garner Nicholson read a call to worship followed by a hymn. The service in the Glad Tidings was read by Mrs. Freda Scott, Mrs. Lottie Scott, Mrs. Margaret Siertsema and Mrs. Garner Nicholson. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey led in prayer. Away in a Manger was sung. The secretary's report was given by Mrs. Siertsema. Mr< Cloakey gave the financial statement. Each one brought a Christmas poem or story to read. Twenty-six sick and shut-in visits were recorded. The collection was received and dedicated. The meeting closed with prayer. The hostess served lunch. NOW 'TIL CHRISTMAS A new church Members of the newly built Wingham Pentecostal Church in Morris Township get set to cut the ribbon to officially dedicate the church Nov. 28. Members (left to right) Ed Stein, chairman of the building committee, Harold Hutton, Tim Embling, Reverend David Loucks, Dave Keating (young boy), Brenda White, Lome Humphrey and John Kerkhof have waited for this moment since construction began in June 1991. The 85-member congregation outgrew its old church in Wingham which has been sold to the Baptist Church. Marj Coultes greets at church The sanctuary of Knox United Church, Belgrave was beautifully decorated for the Christmas season with two poinsettia arrangements. Each window contained a silk poinsettia arrangement. The Christmas tree also looked lovely with the many lights and various decorations. Mrs. Marj Coultes greeted members and visitors as they entered the church. Mrs. Elizabeth Procter played appropriate Christmas hymns on the organ as a prelude to the white gift service. The confirmation class conducted the worship service. Jayne Vincent led the Approach to the People which was followed by the hymn Go Tell It On The Mountain. Andrew Potter then led in prayer. Karrin Marks read Isaiah 11: 1-6 after which everyone joined in the singing of Away In A Manger. The Junior Church members then sang It Is No Longer I That Liveth and The Drummer Boy. They were accompanied by Mrs. Anne Spivey at the piano and Mrs. Lila Procter on the guitar. Harmony Spivey played a drum and Nathan Spivey played the triangle as special effect for the Drummer Boy. Jennifer Cook read the scripture Matthew 3: 1-6. Jayne introduced the next hymn which was Simply Trusting Every Day. Margie Gordon read a Mission and Service Fund Story. The United Church provides and staffs hospitals for the native people of the West Coast. On the East Coast it provides and staffs schools and clinics for out-ports and fishing villages in addition to providing downtown missions in cities and food banks for the hungry. Rev. Peter Tucker gave the announcements and the offering was received by Ken Procter, Steven Nixon, Grace Carmichael and Shawn Logan and dedicated. Jayne then led in the Prayers of the People after which the Lord's Prayer was sung by all. Ruth Gordon, Superintendent of the Church School, gave an update of the foster child Bernard Miuoki from Kenya, Africa. With the funds received at the white gift service to support Bernard, projects such as classroom construction, school desks, provision of text books and provision of first aid boxes have been implemented. A dramatic story, The Treasure Hunt, was presentea by Justin Black, Jamie McCallum and David Piluke. These three young lads were searching out God's gifts. They were to find three gifts that would help us live. Inside the three boxes they found a banner containing a scripture verse and a symbol of sharing with others. After giving the message much thought they realized that giving is a gift too. While Gift Sunday is about more than this one day. It is a reminder of how to live and share God's special love all the time. Marc Alexander and Jennifer Black took up the white gift offering. Lindsay Michie then announced the final hymn which was People of God in Expectation Wait. Jayne closed the service with the benediction. Black wins at euchre Twelve tables of progressive euchre were played Wednesday, Dec. 2. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Stanley Black; second high, Mrs. Stuart Chamney; low lady, Mrs. Helen Martin; lone hands, Mrs. Nell Johnston; high man, Harvey Edgar; second high, Mrs. Ruby Hanna (playing as a man); low man, John King and lone hands, Jim Coultes.
