The goalie for the Brussels Kings mens' broomball team reaches high to catch the ball during a game against the Universal team Tuesday night. This one he stopped but too many other shots were let in so the Kings lost in regular Blyth league play. Bulls move into second place The Brussels Bulls moved into second place by taking five of six possible points over the weekend. Friday night in Walkerton Greg McNevan's two goals helped the Bulls to a 3-3 tie with the Black Hawks. Jason Baier scored the third Bulls' goal while Tim Beyer chipped in with a pair of assists. Saturday night in Grand Valley, the Bulls scored three shorthanded goals for a 7-5 victory. Jamie Williams scored three times and set up a fourth while Ted Sills and Jeff McKee each enjoyed a one goal, two assist game. Brian Zabel and Nate Bender added singles in a game that saw the Bulls, trailing 4- 2 after four consecutive Harvester goals, regroup with two in the dying minutes of the second period and score three times, twice shorthanded, in the third for the win. After Goderich opened the scoring the Bulls replied with 18 unanswered goals, four in the first, ten in the second and four more in the third. Two Goderich goals were bettered by three last minute Bulls tallies. Nate Bender led the attack with four goals while Ted Sills and Jonathan Lane had three goals, three assists games. Two of Lane's goals were scored shorthanded 10 seconds apart. Greg McNevan and Jeff McKee had three goal, five point efforts while George Carnegie registered one goal and five assists. Singles were added by Jason Baier, Brian Zabel, Jason Camm and Tim Beyer. Goal tender Gary Bridge was solid in all three games played. The Bulls travel to Mt. Forest Saturday night and host Wingham Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Sunday's game is the Bulls' Food Drive. Anyone who brings a canned food item will receive a $1 discount off admission. From the Bullspen: Greg McNevan was chosen the Bulls' Player of the Month. Greg, Steve Fritz and Gary Bridge will represent Brussels in the Western Jr. C. All Star Game January 9 along with the Bulls coaching and training staff. In a well played game by both teams Brussels came out with the edge over the visitors defeating them by 4-3. Andrew Exel scored a pair as did Chad McCallum. Assists went to Chad McCallum, Andrew Exel and Corey Newman. Saturday, Dec. 5 the team took part in the Legion tournament in Blyth. At 9:00 a.m. the boys took to the ice and came out flying against Goderich Signal Star. Brussels dominated the entire game both in shots on net and scoring. Andrew Exel scored six goals, Brussels Midgets win The Brussels Midgets added another shut-out to their victorious season thus far when they hosted Listowel II on Dec. 2. The first period set the tone with the home team jumping ahead by three. Mike Bromley started things off, assisted by Mark Robinson and Brett Clarkson, then made the play to Greg Fritz who nudged in the second goal. Robinson then took his turn off a play by Mike McNi- chol giving the Brussels team a 3-0 edge. Both teams remained scoreless in the second, but with 3:45 left on the clock in the third Brian Whit­ more, off a play by Bromley, drove in the only goal of the period. As well, our Hospital Auxiliary has strung bows of greenery, hung wreaths in hallways and filled their Gift Shop windows with terrific Christmas ideas. Of course, nothing looks prettier than the glow of 500 lights which adorn the Tree of Lights on the front lawn. We thank the Auxiliary Volunteers for such dedication and innovation in all their hospital fund raising efforts. Steve Machan and Brett Fischer had one each. The final score was Brussels 15, Goderich 0. At 6:00 Brussels played a strong Ripley team, working hard the entire game. Brussels' lone unassisted goal was scored early in the first period by Andrew Exel, which was answered to in the same period. Ripley moved ahead by one more in the second. Brussels played a strong defensive game but were unable to get those much needed shots on net. The final score was Ripley 4, Brussels 1. Christmas by candlelight.
