This set the stage for the Thamesford Bantam Tourney on the weekend. Blyth travelled there Saturday to play league rival Elma- Logan. Chris Lee went the distance between the pipes for Blyth as he recorded yet another shutout in Blyth's 6-0 romp. To say the game was scrambly would be an under statement but Blyth persevered and broke open a 1 -0 lead in the third to pull out the win. Michael de Jong set up the opening goal late in the first as Jason Rutledge whipped one over the goalie's shoulder. Henry Bos sent Blyth up by two early in the third as his comer pass- out deflected in off the Elma-Logan goalie. A power play goal midway through the third gave Blyth the insurance they needed as Jason Rutledge set up Jonathan Collin's point blast which deflected in off Ryan Chamney. Rutledge and Chamney teamed again three minutes later as Chamney notched his second goal of the game. Then Christopher Howson and Brian McNichol assisted on Henry Bos's second goal of the game with 34 seconds remaining as Bos stepped into a loose puck from deep in the slot. Chris Stewart completed the scoring with eight seconds left as he stuffed one in from close range. Michael de Jong and Mike Salverda recorded assists on this final goal. This victory sent Blyth into the Championship Round where they tangled with a boisterous Cayuga crowd on Sunday afternoon. Although Blyth played sloppily at times and ran into penalty trouble late in the game, they continued their winning ways by eeking out a 5-4 win. Penalties proved costly late in the game as Cayuga cut the lead to 5-4 with two and a half minutes remaining. Some cat-like saves from puck stopper Michael deJong preserved Blyth's 5-4 lead and a trip to the championship finals late Sunday night against London- Oakridge. Although Blyth saved their best performance of the weekend for this championship game, luck was not on their side as they lost a heartbreaker 4-1 to Oakridge. Oakridge got on the scoreboard first as they slipped home a screened shot 50 seconds into the game. This seemed to wake the team up as Blyth controlled, and sometimes dominated, play the rest of the way. Congratulations to the Blyth team as they claimed the “A” Runners-up trophy. Losses aren't hard to lake when the effort has been evident. CROSS CANADA MARKETPLACE IT'S FAST - IT'S EASY! ONE CALL, ONE BILL DOES IT ALL. It was a tight game, but good hustle from the Brussels Atom Houseleague team helped keep the opposition scoreless when they travelled to Goderich on Saturday afternoon, to play Goderich II. The Goderich goalie did a superb job of holding back a strong visit ing team in the first period, but with just 23 seconds remaining Trevor Wilson drove in the first goal of the game. The second period was much of the same with Brussels offensive attack being stalemated by more strong goaltending. Good defense and goaltending by Nathan Conley BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES EXTRA INCOME!
