Londesboro woman offers riding lessons at ranch By Lisa Boonstoppel-Pot You could say Nancy Straughan is jumping for joy with her new business. The RR 1 Londesboro woman, along with husband Wayne, have established a horse ranch and offer boarding, training and riding lessons which include Nancy's favorite sport, horse-jumping. "I love jumping," says this ami able young woman. "There's noth ing like it." Tatonka residents She's sharing her love of horse jumping by offering English riding lessons. Already, her lessons (cost ing $20/hour private and $15 semi- private) are booked. Not only are her lessons booked, but her entire year has been busy with renovating, training and get ting established. It all began two years ago when Wayne bought the farm on the cor ner of Hwy. 8 and County Rd. 15 with the intention of raising wild boars and bison. Then he met and married Nancy and they decided that along with boars and bison, they would oper ate a horse farm and call it Tatonka Ranch. They came up with the name after watching the movie 'Dances With Wolves'. "Since we were planning to farm bison and wild boars, along with the horses, we wanted an Indian name for the farm," explains Nancy. "We couldn't think of any thing until we watched 'Dances With Wolves' and saw the part where Kevin Costner is trying to communicate with the Indians. The instant we heard the word Tatonka, we knew what we'd call the farm." With the ranch named, the couple began the hard work of renovating the former dairy bam to suit their needs. Since summer, they've gut ted the interior to set up box-stalls, a grooming area and a tack room. Improvements are ongoing. Not only are the Straughans improving their farm, they’re build ing upon their extensive knowledge of horses which they've garnered since childhood. Nancy remembers always having a love for riding. "I rode my Dad's cows for two years before he bought me a horse when I was 11," she reveals. Soon, she was actively showing horses in 4-H and this past winter, she earned her Canadian Equestrian Federation level one instructors certificate in English discipline. . Wayne is an accomplished rider who's competed in the show circuit across Ontario doing barrel-racing, gaming and other sporting events. However, he leaves the horse training and lessons up to Nancy and now, just rides for pleasure. The couple owns eight horses themselves and can handle eight other horses to board or train. They're also beginning a breed ing operation with their Pinto Paint stallion. Nancy will be taking more stu-’ dents in the spring. & Wild Bird Seed - Mixed 10 Kgs...............................6.25 - Niger 5 lbs.................................10.75 * Banner Pet Food - 8 Kg.
