Catholic school board hires new teachers BREAK AND ENTER AND THEFT On Oct. 11 and 12, person(s) stole a 1987 Mazda pickup, blue in colour, from a residence on Cambria Road, Goderich. This vehicle was located in Colborne Twp. The wheels were removed as well as the stereo and speakers from the vehicle. BREAK AND ENTER AND THEFT On Oct. 7, a vehicle on Picton Street in Goderich was entered and an 8-track adaptor was removed. The ignition switch was damaged as well as the transmission. MISCHIEF On Oct. 3, unknown persons pried open the door to a storage area at the Pavilion on St. Christopher’s Beach Cove area. Nothing was stolen at the time. Five new teachers and teacher assistants were hired by the Huron- Perth County Roman Catholic Sep­ arate School Board at their general board meeting Sept. 28. New staff members are Mary Ann Johnston (permanent contract increase), Lori Parsons, Laurie Schaefer, Carolyn Cook and Patty Potestio. The Board approved the follow­ ing hourly rate for lunch monitors: zero years—$9.10, one year— $9.40 and two years—$9.65. The board's superintendent of Business and Treasurer will retire effective June 30, 1993. A motion was passed to continue to employ the current Superintendent of Busi­ ness and Treasurer on a part-time basis between July 1 and Dec. 31, 1993 to complete specific tasks. The board will be seeking a replacement to be appointed effec­ tive July 1, 1993. The Stratford Family Counselling Service was approved as the provider of the Employee Assis­ tance Plan for the board starting Oct. 1. Belgrave Kinsmen SATURDAY, OCTOBER 31 and ELIMINATION DRAW An Ad Hoc committee will be formed to conduct an examination of the instruction spaces required for French immersion in the exist­ ing St. Michael Secondary School as well as examining the entire facility to identify area for renova­ tion and restoration. Descriptions for each supervisory position with be developed by Dec. 18 this year,the board decided. As well, a mechanism for a cyclical review and performance appraisal of those in such roles will be devel­ oped by June 30, 1993. The board supported a resolution from the Scarborough Board of Education which requests that refugee claimants to Canada, immediately upon arrival, receive a complete medical assessment including treatment where neces­ sary, prior to their assimilation into Canadian society. Lastly, the board supported a motion to send correspondence to the Ministry of Education express­ ing concern over the Ministry's fail­ ure to make the announcement of capital expenditure forecast in time for adequate planning. Wingham Seniors Day Centre asking for $8,000 in donations As this year draws to a close, the Wingham and Area Seniors Day Centre is asking for $8,000 in donations from the community. The money is needed to complete the whirlpool bathing room for the centre’s clients. The centre is facing a shortfall this year due to the loss of an annu­ al grant from Bruce County.
