The Citizen, 1992-10-28, Page 7Health unit launches breakfast campaign The Huron County Health Unit, in co-operation with the Huron County Board of Education and the Huron-Perth Roman Catholic School Board, is launching “Breakfast Awareness Week in Huron”, Oct. 26-30. Breakfast provides both children and adults with the fuel needed to support mental and physical activity throughout the morning. With about 48 per cent of deaths being attributed to lifestyle causes, you can get a jump on good health by starting each day with a breakfast that includes foods from three of the four food groups. Results from the Huron County School Health Survey (1991) show a dramatic drop in the number of students who eat breakfast regularly when we compare grade four (79 per cent) to grade 10 (52 per cent). As well, there is a marked rise in the number of students who never eat breakfast from grade four (six per cent) to grade 10 (23 per cent). As part of this campaign, teachers will be focusing on breakfast with 11 to 14-year-olds in grades six, seven, and eight. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28,1992. PAGE 7.
