Dave Tigchelaar from Drayton Christian Reformed Church, led the Blyth CRC congregation in Holy Wor ship. Sacrament of Communion was celebrated in the morning service, with a Vesper Service in the afternoon. The opening hymn was No. 368, "Rejoice The Lord Is King", with Angela Verburg serving as organist. In the announcements the Uyls and Hessels will be remembered in the passing of family member Art Kikkert. Mrs. DeVries and Tony DeBoer will be uplifted in prayers as well. Praise and thanks are given to the Lord for answered prayer in regards to the needs of Daniel Bouman. Rev. Tigchelaar also mentioned the upcoming political referendum as a concern for prayer. Scripture for the morning message was from Matthew 18:1- 14. The sermon title was "Littleness, Lostness, Leastness". Rev. Tigchelaar started by saying humans are caught in a whirlwind of winning. We dislike losing and even tend to idolize big time winners such as the "Blue Jays", or the "Great Gretzky". Rev. Tigchelaar stated that as the Greatest Name of All". Guest minister, Cecil Wittich read the scripture, Ephesians 1:3-10 omitting Luke 17:11-19. The hymn "Can A Little Child Like Me" was sung while the children came forward for the Children's Time. Rev. Wittich spoke to the children about "What is an Anniversary?" He explained the celebration of the church in Blyth. The bible is the most important book of our time. "What is the most important lesson we can learn from the Bible?” he asked the children. The answer was discovered shortly, Jesus loves Me. The children went to class with Candice Howson. The choral anthem "Teach me Thy Way O Lord" was sung by the choir with solo by Cheryl Cronin. Rev. Ramirez made a special world boasts of who has succeeded, Jesus focuses on the weak and helpless. Will we flash our report cards of success to enter the gates of Heaven? Or will we be like Paul in Philippians 3, who says his greatest ambition is to be faithful to Jesus? The second service of worship now takes place at 2:30 p.m., congruent with the time change. Rev. Tigchelaar chose to speak on the "Parable of The Lost Son", from Luke 15 11-24. Several interesting points were learned on this topic. Wittich, who, before his sermon, acknowledged his wife Sharon and brought news of their family. Jeffrey, their son, is now married and Garth is still in university. As for Rev. Wittich himself, he is looking forward to his retirement within the next year. He mentioned watching the ball game and the Blue Jay's win of the World Series and a round of applause was received. After a short prayer Rev. Wittich spoke on being thankful people. He asked that everyone keep in mind 1 Thessalonians 5:18, “give thanks in all circumstances of life.” During his message he reminded everyone of the Golden Rule - love one another as you would have them love you. We should be thankful that we have so much by being Canadians. The final hymn was sung "The Church's One Foundation." Remember in prayer this week Mae MacDonald and Betty Nethery who are in the hospital. Rev. Wittich conducted an evening service also, after which a lunch was served.
