The Citizen, 1992-10-07, Page 19PAGE 20. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1992. deJONG-VINCENT Londesboro woman weds Dashwood man Julia deJong and Michael Vincent were united in marriage on Friday, Aug. 14, 1992 by Reverend Bob Barnhart. The bride is the daughter of Peter and Joanne deJong of Londesboro and the groom is the son of Harold and Lucille Vincent of Dashwood. The bride was attended by her matron-of-honour Nicole Latour of Zurich. Acting as bridesmaids were Judy Lambers of Clinton and Erin Lobb of Clinton, all friends of the bride. The groom was attended by his best man Rob Rader of Dashwood, friend of the groom. Guests were ushered by Chris Colboume of Clinton, friend of the groom and Michael deJong of Londesboro, brother of the bride. The flower girl was Brittany Cook of Blyth, cousin of the bride. Christina Black, of Blyth, cousin of the bride, read a scripture. John Ramirez of Blyth was the organist. Soloist was Michelle Vincent of Windsor accompanied by Lori Brown of Sarasota, Florida, both sisters of the groom. A reception followed at the Stanley Township Community Centre. The bridal couple now reside in Blyth. Snells usher at Blyth United On Sunday, Oct. 4, the greeters at the Blyth United Church were Bev and Cliff Snell. The ushers were Vera and John Hesselwood and Jim and Thelma Wilson. Rev. Ramirez opened the service with the Call to' Worship, Prayer of Invocation and Prayer of Confession, followed by the Silent Confession and Assurance of Pardon. "When Morning Gilds The Skies" was sung. The responsive reading was from selected verses of Psalm 118. The scripture was taken from 2 Timothy 1.1-14 followed by Hymn #258, "Spirit of God Descend". For children's time Rev. Ramirez spoke about fanning the flame of God's love. He demonstrated by using a fan. He told the children that you use a fan to create a breeze to cool yourself when you are hot. But when you fan a hot coal the breeze causes the coal to become hotter and start the fire. This is how we can spread God's Love. By sharing it with others this is fanning or sharing his love. The children then returned to their seats. The ladies' choir sang a beautiful piece, "Above Every Name is the Name of Jesus". There will be no Sunday School next Sunday. The children are to come to church with their parents, for Family Sunday. Confirmation for people 13 and older starts in January. Rev. Ramirez's sermon was titled "Strengthened by God's Spirit to Live our Faith". How can we strengthen our faith in God? By exercising your faith, sharing with others his love that He shared with us, and fanning the love and faith. When we do something good we share it with others. Therefore, we should share God's love. Do not be you are. ‘Welcome at the BLYTH CHURCH OF GOD 9:45 a.m. - Sunday School for Children and Adults 11 -12:15- Morning Worship Bible Studies - Wednesday 10 a.m. & 7:30 p.m. Phone 523-4590 McConnell St., Blyth MELVILLE From the Minister's Study: Remember this country on Thanksgiving Day by Rev. Lorenzo Ramirez Blyth United Church Thanksgiving Day for us Canadians will be this Monday coming but a lot of farmers around here and through the province think there seems to be not much to be thankful about because of the cold, wet summer we had. Now they're anxiously waiting for the weather to co-operate and the land to dry enough so the crops and grain can be harvested. This year will probably be recorded in history as the worst year weatherwise here and around the world. On the other hand, Thanksgiving Day helps us to remember that we are still one of the best countries in the world when it comes to producing food and fibre. Our soil is rich, our country vast, our machinery is technologically advanced and our scientific knowledge superior and applicable to our food production. We know of many countries in Asia, Europe and the Middle East that dream of and envy the vast fresh water that we are so blessed to have, yet, we take it for granted. May we pause on Thanksgiving Day to give God the praise and glory for the bountiful grace we are so blessed to have. afraid to do so. The Sacrament of Holy Communion was served by Bill Burkholder, Deb Craig, Bonnie Shannon, Linda Wilson, Bea Chambers, Vera Badley, Albert Wasson and Lloyd Sippel. Hymn #342 "Here O My Lord I See Thee", was sung during and after communion. Remember in your prayers Mae MacDonald, Jim Boak, and Melda MacElroy who are in Clinton Hospital.
