The Citizen, 1992-10-07, Page 16F arm Brussels Livestock Rejjortj All classes of cattle sell higher The sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending Oct. 2 were fed cattle, 1026; cows, 241; veal calves, 231; sheep and goats, 60; stockers, 1525; pigs, light run. The market at Brussels Livestock saw all classes of cattle selling $1-2 higher. On Monday Sept. 28 we held our second annual show & sale. There were 560 steers and 92 heifers on offer. Posthumous award Members of the family of the late Andre Durand of Zurich were on hand to accept the annual Huron County Federation of Agriculture Award for contribution to agriculture at the annual meeting of the Federation in Brussels, Friday. Gerry Fortune of Belgrave, (left) was on hand to present the award in honour of Mr. Durand’s work with the Federation, the Hensall Co-op and the Pork Producers. Agriculture honor awarded posthumously The annual Huron Federation of Agriculture Award for outstanding contribution to agriculture in the county was awarded to the late Andre Durand of Zurich. Gerry Fortune, who with her hus­ band Doug (both former Federation presidents) originated the award in 1976, lauded Mr. Durand as "one of the nicest people it has ever been my pleasure to know." Mr. Durand was active in the Federation in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, serving as president of the Hay Township Federation of Agriculture, on the energy, proper­ ties and land-use and membership committees of the county Federa­ tion and as a regional director of the OFA.
