The Citizen, 1992-06-24, Page 24PAGE 24. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, JUNE 24, 1992. Belgrave woman hosts women from Kenya Mrs. Muriel Coultes, Belgrave, President of London Conference United Church Women, spent four days recently hosting Mrs. Esther Waithru and Mrs. Alice Shitsimi, of Kenya, during their visit to London Conference. Esther is in Canada representing the Presbyterian Church of East Africa and is the person responsible for the women's work of the National Council of Churches of Kenya. She is a wife and mother of five, and has been involved with Ecumenical Decade work in Kenya since 1988. She works in Nairobi but lives in a village nearby. Alice represents the African Church of the Holy Spirit and lives in Western Kenya. She represents her church on the N.C.C.K., and is also a wife and mother of five. Churches around the world are in the fourth year of the Ecumenical Decade of Churches in Solidarity with Women and the visitors are part of a group of eight visiting Love, focus of sermon Greeters for the June 21 morning service at Blyth Christian Reformed Church were Hans and Audrey Boonstoppel. Rev. Dan Tigchelaar from Waterloo CRC was guest pastor. A warm and cordial welcome was extended to guests, and members of the congregation. After the reading of the Law, a special presentation was made to the grade 6 graduating Sunday School class. Bibles were given to the eight members as a token from the congregation. Each student had a verse from the Bible recited and dedicated to them personally and inscripted into their Bibles. The class then joined together in singing “Great Is The Lord”, for the congregation. The sermon title was “Love The Most Excellent Way.” Scripture was taken from I Cor. 13 with the focal text I Cor. 13, verses 1,2,3. Rev. Tigchelaar said that the best way to deal with tensions is to give to each other out of love. Paul told the Church in Corinth to model God's love, to overcome crises by maintaining a spirit of love. He said that God works in each of our lives uniquely; we are all special individuals. Every individual blooms with God's love in their own way. God loves us unconditionally, and he opens doors with his love when we transfer it to others. The service ended with singing hymn No. 493, as the Doxology. United Church news Rev. Ramirez opened the service at Blyth United Church with the call to worship followed by the hymn “When Morning Guilds the Sky.” Scripture reading was Luke 9, 18-24 followed by the hymn “Jesus Calls Us”. The anthem was “The Saviour is Waiting”. Rev. Ramirez' sermon was on Peters Confession of Christ. “O Master Let Us Walk With Thee” was sung. The service ’ ended with the benediction and the choral response. Canada as the second half of an exchange visit. Many local U.C.W. groups have helped finance this exchange. Wednesday morning they were met in Woodstock by a small group of women ready to show them around the area. A trip to The Meeting Place, a drop-in centre for street people in Woodstock, started the experience, which was followed by a visit to the Good Beginnings Day Care Centre at Fanshawe College. Dinner was hosted by a local U.C.W. group and then trips to a horse farm and a dairy farm were enjoyed. Curries United Church Women hosted the women in the evening at their regular meeting. Thursday morning they shopped in a large mall and made purchases of clothes for their families and themselves. In the afternoon they visited with single moms in East London. This is a project supported by surrounding United Churches who provide support workers. They run a ‘collective kitchen’ project where the moms can plan and cook meals together for a week. Chalmers United Church, Cowal, welcomed all to a family church beef barbecue which was followed by a visit to a large beef farm. A visit to Siloam U.C. the newest United Church in London and then a visit to the Lawson Museum on Friday was followed by a dinner at the World’s Fair Restaurant, run by the Immigrant Women of London. The remainder of their visit was spent taking part in the 25th Anniversary of Westminster Weekend for United Church Women, in London.
