Community extends sympathy Belgrave friends extend their sincere sympathy to Ronald Coultes and his family in the loss of Elda Coultes, a dear wife, mother, and grandmother who passed away at her home on June 21. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grasby and Mrs. Laura Johnston spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston, Tara and Erin of Ilderton. Mr. and Mrs. George Johnston and Mr. and Mrs. Ross Anderson attended the 40th wedding anniversary celebration for Mr. and Mrs. Murray Lougheed of Barrie. The anniversary was held at the Singhampton Community Hall on Sunday, June 14. Mrs. Jean Wightman spent a few days last week visiting with her daughters Mrs. Shirley Nicol and family of Brampton and Mrs. Rena Montgomery and family of Guelph. She also visited with her granddaughter and her husband Mr. and Mrs. Randy Prange of Kitchener. Mrs. Winnie Vincent of Blyth visited with her daughter and son- in-law Mr. and Mrs. James Lamont East Wawanosh council renews landfill contracts At the June 16 meeting of the East Wawanosh Twp. council, councillors deliberated about the floats they plan on entering in area parades this summer in the town­ ship's name. Council renewed the contract for the landfill site with Donald and Clifford Schultz. The five year lease is retroactive from January 1, 1992 until December 31, 1996 at an annual rate of $400 per year and $30 per trip for snowblowing. The contract with Chamney Sani­ tation of Auburn was renewed until April 30, 1994 for the recycling bin rental at the landfill site. The cost of $30 per month remains. The cost to empty the recycling bins is $100 a trip. The following building permits were approved by council: the Van- leuwens, part Lot 31, Cone. 10 for a screened in porch; Lynden and Joan Hunter, south Lot 30, Cone. 13, subject to approval of the Huron County Health Unit; John and Norman McDowell for an addition to the house, part Lot 31, on Wednesday. Mrs. Ruby Hanna accompanied her granddaughter Miss Kathleen Minick of Ottawa to Sauble Beach for the weekend. At the annual meeting of the Elmira and District Association for Community Living held in the Elmira Legion on June 18, Grant Vincent of RR 5, Wingham was one of the four persons presented with plaques in recognition of their courage in rescuing the driver and wheelchair occupants from a burning van. The van was involved in an accident north of Macton on County Road 12, on April 2, 1992. Vincent Makas and his daughter Alicia of London spent the weekend with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. Mrs. Helen Martin spent a few days last week with her sister Mrs. Anna Armstrong of Thorndale. Barbara Coultes of Toronto spent the weekend with her mother Mrs. Janisa Coultes. Mr. and Mrs. George Procter have recently returned home after visiting with their daughter Jennifer Procter, who is working on a farm near Lethbridge, Alberta. Cone. 7; and Roy Dawson for an addition to the bam, part Lot 39, Cone. 13. Council agreed to forward letters to all those who are in contraven­ tion of the swimming pool by-law regarding the fencing of pools. The resolution of the Hullett Twp. council concerning CKNX not becoming a relay station for CPFL-TV, but retaining its own identification as the voice of mid- westem Ontario, was supported by the East Wawanosh Twp. council. Harley Gaunt of the Wingham Area Fire Board will be appointed as the assistant chief building offi­ cial to Arnold Bruce (C.M.O.) in order that buildings may be inspected by the Fire Chief as they are being constructed. Council supported the letter from Denis Merrall, township engineer, regarding disentanglement, that neither the province nor the local M.P.P.'s lake any action or vote on any legislation until both have consulted with the municipal gov­ ernment. A profusion of multi-coloured summer flowers in the sanctuary and vestibule made a most attractive setting for the large congregation that gathered at Knox United Church, Belgrave for the Junior Congregation Anniversary Sunday morning, June 21. A prelude of sacred music was presented by Mrs. Elizabeth Procter, organist and Mrs. Donna Shaw, pianist. The service was conducted by Mrs. Ruth Gordon, Superintendent, assisted by Rev. Peter Tucker. The first verse of the processional hymn, “Jesus Loves Me” was sung by the children. The congregation joined in for the remaining verses. The junior congregation, forming a choir, sang “The Bible”, “Oh Be Careful” and “God Is So Good”. After a prayer, the scripture, Luke 15: 11-24 was read by Alicia Potter and Kendra Folkard. Taylor and Michael Mali and Shane Petteplace from the Lucknow United Church did a dramatization of the Prodigal Son based on the scripture just read. The boys' presentation made the story very vivid for the congregation. Everyone joined in the singing of “Stand Up, Stand Up For Jesus”. Russell Hurst from Teeswater delighted the congregation with his solo, “I Got A Home”. Margie Gordon, Karrin Marks, Jayne Vincent and Grace Carmichael received the offering. Rev. Peter Tucker gave the announcements followed by a prayer. “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” was sung followed by musical numbers from the junior congregation. Becky Logan read the story of Joseph's coat as found in the book of Genesis. The boys from the grades 4,5,6 class then did a dramatization of the story Joseph's Coat. Jeremy Campbell was the narrator with Justin Black playing Joseph and Marc Alexander portraying Jacob. Michael Marks was the servant. Ruth thanked everyone for helping with the anniversary. It is the dedication of the people working together that makes this occasion meaningful and successful. The closing hymn was “Great Is Thy Faithfulness”. The Benediction was given followed by grace. Everyone enjoyed a delicious barbecue chicken lunch along with cake, ice cream, coffee and cold drinks which were served in the church school room and W.I. Hall. Special thanks to the men who barbecued the chicken.
