Ushers were Fred Peel and Jason Konarski. The Junior Choir sang two anthems. This was Award and Promotion Sunday for the Sunday School. Attendance awards were given to: Intermediate - Erica Horbanuik, 6 year seal; Jennie Konarski, 10 year seal; Karen Trick, 7 year seal; Carrie Salverda, 6 year seal; Juniors - Katie MacGregor, 7 year seal; Angie Konarski, 9 year seal; Shannon Scott, 8 year seal; Primary - Elizabeth MacGregor, 5 year seal; Kindergarten - Daron Dolmage, 2 year seal. Certificates were presented to: Peggy Hulley, Lauren Snell, Mary Jane Horbanuik, UCW repeats Purpose The June meeting of Londesboro U.C.W. was held at the church on Monday, June 15 at 8 p.m. The Purpose was repeated in unison. Helen Lawson read “The 10 Commandments For Getting Along With People.” Bernice Norman's group had the worship service. Dorothy Tamblyn read the scripture. “Master Let Me Walk With Thee” was sung. Margaret Wright gave the topic, then Dorothy Tamblyn led in prayer. Bernice Norman read a story about a missionary. Dorothy Tamblyn read a poem on “Handicaps”. “Who Is On The Lord's Side” was sung. Florence and June gave reports on Westminister Weekend. The minutes of the May meeting were read and approved. Dorothy Tamblyn gave the financial report. It was decided to charge more for special meals or when extras are asked for. Correspondence was read from Addie Hunking and the Saundercock family. Ruth Shad­ dick moved that a donation be given to the church. Il was decided to buy the church plates. A letter was received from Hullett Council on Oct. 19 the Fall Rally will be at Wesley Willis Happy Gang meets The June meeting of the Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors was held on Wednesday, June 17. Thirty-four members met at the Hall and travelled to Spinrite Yams in Listowel where they were guided on a tour that took them from the time the wool is received until it is shipped out as balls of yarn. Spinrite supplies the yarn to Woolco, Zellers and Mary Maxim stores. Each member received a ball of yam. There will be no Londesboro Happy Gang Seniors until the September meeting. People Ruth Prince, formerly Ruth Shobbrook, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wes Shobbrook of Clinton passed away in Toronto on Sunday, June 21 in her 82nd year. Mrs. Margaret Good and Mrs. Gladys Campbell and son Eric of Westfield spent a weekend recently visiting relatives al South Bend, Indiana. Amanda Mitchell, Steven Dougherty, Trent Johnston, Erica Johnston, Jessica Wheeler, Molly Horbanuik, Terry Radford, Eric Radford, Meagan Wheeler, Derek Dolmage and Marie Hulley. Promoted from Nursery and Kindergarten to Primary were: Dawn Dolmage, Steven Dougherty. Primary to Junior: Jason Hoggart, Susie Salverda, Michael Lyons and Becky Archambault. Junior to Intermediate: Katie MacGregor, Tammy Vincent, Angie Konarski, Shannon Scott, Debbie Hoggart, Katie Snell and Lucas Bolinger. After the service the annual Sunday School picnic was held in the church due to the inclement weather. Church, Clinton. Collection and birthday pennies were taken up. Plans were made for Talent Night and Craft Show on September 19. The U.C.W. Benediction was repeated in unison. The Grace was sung. Morris council hears ratepayer’s concern Glen Montgomery of Lot 1, Cone. 6 attended the June 16 meet­ ing of Morris council to discuss the Grasby Drain repairs. Mr. Mont­ gomery is dissatisfied with the Highway 4 catch basin that was removed and wants it reinstalled. He mentioned that the water cross­ es the highway, then ponds. Mr. Montgomery was advised that council would discuss the mat­ ter with Gary Nicholson, the drainage superintendent. When Mr. Nicholson arrived Hater in the meeting the concern -was brought to his attention. It was decided that a letter be forwarded to Mr. Montgomery advising him that the catchbasin is the property of MTO and was removed at its direction as part of the highway project. If Mr. Montgomery should like to improve the drain, he has the right to submit a petition to request the drainage of the area. Council decided to tender for 12,000 cubic yards of pit run "B" gravel. Tenders are due on July 2. Council had no objections to a wayside pit permit for gravel extraction from Lot 1, Cone. 2, which is owned by Clarence Gol- ley. Drain petitions for the McDonald and Cockerline Drain were approved for repairs. It was agreed that MTO be noti­ fied about placing 'No Parking' signs along Highway 4 in Belgrave, from the north side of the Anglican Church to the junciton of Brandon St. The signs were requested by the Community Police Service. The township is forwarding com­ ments to the Ministry of Natural Resources concerning the Proposed Trees Act. They are advising that there should be more restrictions placed on commercial loggers, cut­ ting trees on private lands. Also they agree that the munici­ pality should have authority to pass by-laws to control tree cutting, pro­ viding the legislation is not manda­ tory. E. Wawanosh students do fair work EDITORS: MS. THORPE- HEARN'S GRADE 5/6 CLASS GRADE ONE Mrs. Brydges' Grade one class worked very hard on their Fall Fair activities during the last two weeks of school. They made paintings of their grandparents and made animals out of boxes and cylinders! Everyone in Grade one was excited about school being finished. All the Grade ones celebrated the birthdays of their classmates for July or August before they dismissed for the summer. GRADE TWO Mrs. Dodds' Grade two class would like to say Happy Birthday to Jimmy McCracken (June 19) and Travis Campbell (June 24). The two's finished the school year by presenting plays to other classes and finishing all their Fall Fair work. Mr. Scott taught those travelling on the school float in July, a special song. The Grade two representatives on the East Wawanosh Public School float are Lisa Black and Matthew Bromley. The class wanted to wish Mrs. Kim Dodds a "cool and happy" summer as she prepares for the delivery of her baby in September. Good luck Mrs. Dodds! Mrs. Hessels' Grade two class were excited about the Fall Fair and were busy trying their beSt to do a good job at their projects, they want to earn some money! Amber Koehler and Travis Hopper will be riding on the school float at the East Wawanosh Parade Council feel that landowners should be able to cut firewood and that low tier municipality should have jurisdiction over all tree cut­ ting. A request was made from the Canadian Imperial Bank of Com­ merce, requesting a discussion of proposed banking arrangements. Clerk Nancy Michie will discuss the matter and if a meeting is nec­ essary then it will be set up. Regarding a request from the landowners of the Turvey Drain, Mrs. Michie advised council that the GST can not be set out sepa­ rately on the municipal drain invoice. Councillor Bert Elliott told coun­ cil that the members of the Blyth Community Centre Board feel that the wages must be passed by coun­ cil after being established by the board. Council supported a resolution from Hullett township regarding the loss of CKNX as a rural infor­ mation service and the impact this will have on the surrounding area. Council were told of the 1992 criteria for the tile drainage and the allocation of the fiscal year of $48,900. Brussels will be billed $10,785.22 for waste disposal costs. Health Unit promotes strawberries Take Heart Huron, a special sec­ tion of the Huron County Health Unit promoting heart health, rec­ ommends strawberries in your diet. Strawberries are high in fibre, vitamin C, potassium, and like most fruits and vegetables, they have very little sodium and no fat. Take Heart Huron recommends making low fat high fibre food choices as part of a healthy lifestyle. Strawberries are an excel­ lent choice to include in a healthy diet. on July 4. The Grade twos wanted to wish Amber Koehler, Kim Frieburger and Katie VanCamp happy birthdays in July. GRADE THREE Miss Mathers' Grade three class has almost finished the Fall Fair work! They had only one activity left to do! They really enjoyed making sock puppets with their Grade 5/6 buddies. Happy birthday to Peggy Procter who celebrated her birthday on Thursday, June 18. GRADE FOUR Mr. Fisher's Grade four class finished their farm centers and Fall Fair work! They all said that they had fun on their camping trip to Shady Lane Farm (Mr. Fisher's place), they had good weather but the mosquitoes almost drove them CRAZY! Their bean growing contest, last draw of the year and class water fight were year-end activities they all enjoyed. GRADE FIVE Mr. Kerr's Grade five class finished up the year working on Fall Fair activities. They also made tissue-paper flowers for the school float. Happy birthday is extended to David Piluke (July 5), Gavin VanCamp (July 14), Ryan Cook (July 21), Sjann Gerth (August 6), Michael Marks (August 8) and Justin Howattt (August 15). GRADE FIVE/SIX The class managed to raise enough money for a trip to the Metro Toronto Zoo on Friday, June 19 by selling pop, chips and donuts. The class ended this school year by finishing all the Fall Fair assignments, cleaning the classroom to the "endth" degree, making three types'of puppets, putting on puppet plays, receiving special winit and "CAN" awards and attending a party at Sarah Cowan's place on the last day of school. Students are looking forward to the arrival of Ms. Thorpe-Hearn's baby in August! Nine of the students are betting she delivers a girl while the other nine , all the boys, and two determined girls, say it's a boy. GRADE SEVEN Mrs. Gross' Grade seven class ARE YOU INTERESTED IN THE ENVIRONMENT? On Friday, June 19, they met with their buddies for the last time and shared books, had treats and watched a film about Beverly Cleary's book "Runaway Ralph." The class also watched the movie The Sound of Music as a follow-up to their trip to the Huron Country's Playhouse production of the musical. GRADE EIGHT Mr. Bartlett's Grade eight class went to the Two-Pitch tournament on Wednesday, June 17. It was a very hot, windy, dusty day but the eights had fun and played well, showing good sportsmanship. The Grade eights were looking forward to their graduation banquet and all the parties they had planned for the coming week! The Year- Book staff was busy putting the contents of their book together. GRADUATION NEWS At 7:00 pm, on Monday, June 22 at the Belgrave Womens' Institute Hall, the Grade eight class and their parents and friends joined the staff for the Grade Eight Graduation Banquet and Ceremonies. All the graduates looked especially good. Mme Lucie Turcotte-Lapaine was a special guest who gave the toast to the students. (Mme. Turcotte taught at the school for five years during which she taught the graduating class two years.) It was great seeing her again. The hall was decorated by school secretary, Mrs. Doris Robinson, who did a FABULOUS job! Best wishes are extended to our Graduates who are wished continued success at Secondary School and with their future endeavours.
