The grant will be used to upgrade the current building to the standards of a contemporary theatre facility. The theatre company, founded in 1972, first performed in a rented big top tent and accommodation for the actors was provided in a neighbouring barn. The humble facilities and barn building provided a unique atmosphere of theatre in the country that became the trademark of the Playhouse. In 1975, a new theatre of recycled barn board was constructed replace the existing facilities. “The Huron Country Playhouse contributes significantly to the area economy as a tourist attraction,” said Haslam. “The playhouse has grown and become more and more popular every year and strives to provide the best in summer theatre to the communities it serves.” Primarily family oriented, the theatre draws on the international repertoire of classic and recent musicals and comedies. The 1992 Main Stage season will run for 13 weeks from June 8 to September 5. “The Huron Country Playhouse is a family tradition here,” said Paul Klopp, MPP for Huron. “I am delighted the government is supporting live regional theatre which is a priority for Minister Haslam and me.” to The Brussels Bulls Junior ‘C’ hockey club announced today the formation of a ‘Dream Team’ that will play a team of NHL Oldtimers this fall. Fans will be given an opportunity to vote for their favourite player during the summer by filling out a ballot. The fan who selects the most players to take part in the game will win $100. If there is a tie, a draw will be made during the game to decide the winner. Fans will only be allowed to enter once and the deadline for entries is September 11. Ballots will be available to the public beginning July 3 when the Bulls host their annual slowpitch tournament during Brussels FunFest. A number of local businesses will also have ballots available. Organizing chairman Steve Coulter, who has been involved with the Bulls organization for eight years says, “It will be difficult to select only 21 players from that list. I expect the fans will be treated to an excellent game October 17.” Coulter adds, “We scheduled the game for 7:00 to give us time to have a dance afterwards which will give fans and former players an opportunity to get reacquainted.” During the intermission at the game Brussels native Kevin Wheeler will put on a figure skating demonstration. Wheeler was won of the top Canadian skaters last winter and is also a former Bulls player. The Bulls Dream Team is one of several events being planned to celebrate the team's 10th year in Junior Hockey. The Bulls played six seasons in the Western Junior ‘D’ league and then three seasons ago stepped up to Junior ‘C’. Since moving up one category, Brussels has advanced to the league final each season.
