BY SANDRA JOSLING The Brussels Cemetery Decoration Sunday will be this Sunday, June 7 at 2 p.m. Anyone wishing to parade should meet at the west end of the cemetery at 1:45 p.m. Contact the Branch at 887-6562 if you require further information. On Thursday, May 28, a cheque for $12,000 was donated to the Wingham Hospital from the Charitable Foundation account of the Royal Canadian Legion. This money was used to purchase a new heart monitor for the Hospital. Money for this donation had been raised through the local poppy drives. Representing the local branches were Al Nichol, Brussels; Keith Lapp, Blyth; Jim Saint, Wingham; Duncan Sangster, Wroxeter; and Carol Cross, Lucknow. Unfortunately, business was a little slow because of the cold weather. Brussels People Travelling with “Travel Venturers” of Kitchener on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of last week, Erma Brighton, Leola Hood and Mildred Jacklin were thoroughly delighted with their mystery tour. After boarding the brand new coach at Towers Plaza in Waterloo at 6:45 a.m. and picking up passengers in Cambridge and Brantford, then stopping at the duty-free store in Fort Erie, a buffet dinner was enjoyed at The Yorks Restaurant in Erie Pa. Then it was on to the Sheridan Suites Hotel at Cuyahoga Falls in Ohio. On Tuesday, it was a 250 mile circle route of many interesting attractions including an Amish Mennonite Farm area reflecting very prosperous countryside where a few of the attractions visited were “Alpine Alpa”, Switzerland over here. The biggest Glocenspiel Cuckoo Clock in the world is featured here and the grounds and buildings are fashioned in the Stowe Vermont “Von Troppe” lodge style. One of the cheese houses en roue featured over 250 different varieties of cheese. They toured the Warther Museum at Dover, Ohio and viewed the wood carvings of “The World's Master Carver”, Ernest Warther, who, while he was living, carved out many replicas of the trains of his day which he made out of walnut, black ebony woods and ivory. His models are all working in his family museum and never need oiling. The dinner theatre at Canton featured a Filipino girl with a superb voice who sang and yodeled. There was shopping time in two large malls on the way home, returning via Niagara Falls on Wednesday night. Winners of the Brussels Lions Elimination Draw "Early Bird" prize are Bruce and Audrey McLean, RR4, Seaforth. On Friday, Ashley Gropp of Brussels participated in Encore Stu­ dios' annual dance recital in Guelph. Gail Van Beek was one of the dancers during the Saturday evening performance. Ashley is the daughter of Bonnie and Mark Gropp, Brussels and Gail is the daughter of Ken and Debbie Van Beek, RR2, Brussels. On Saturday the Gropp family attended the wedding of Mark's Brussels school news BY MIKE SEILI AND MIKE DLLMAN BORDENBALL On Friday, May 15 the annual Bordenball Tournament was held at East Wawanosh School from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The following schools competed in this event: Brussels, Howick, Grey, East Wawanosh, Wingham and Tumberry. Teams were picked by pairing students and putting them on a team so they played as team mates with students from other schools. TRACK AND FIELD Last Thursday, Brussels Public continued on page 8 niece Julie Scott and Don Leis in Poole. Julie is a sister of Jamie Scott, number 15 on the Brussels Bulls team this past season. The regular meeting of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge took place on Tuesday, May 26 with Vice Grand Gertie Kellington presiding in the absence of Leola Hood Noble Grand. There was a good attendance. The Rebeka Degree will be exemplified at a special meeting on June 2. The lodge will host Huronic Rebekah Lodge, Clinton on June 9, which is the next regular meeting.
