Bulls gear up for playoff run
The Brussels Bulls are gearing up
for another run at the Western
Junior C title. The Bulls picked up
four points on the weekend, beating
Walkerton and Goderich.
Despite the weather, Brussels
made the trek to Walkerton on Fri
day night and beat the Blackhawks
4-2.
Jamie Hislop and Todd Norman
gave the Bulls a 2-0 lead after the
first. The Hawks cut the lead in hall
on a goal by Mike Bradstock. Then
with the Bulls killing off a foui
minute spearing penalty to Jamie
Hislop, Scott Vader and Greg
McNevan broke out on a two on
one. Vader used McNevan as a
decoy and deked Jon Biesenthal foi
a 3-1 lead.
Scott's brother Greg made it 4-1
with just 2! seconds left in he sec
ond. His shot was stopped, but then
a Walkerton defenceman knockec
it into the net as he was hustling tc
get back to help.
The Blackhawks made the final
4-2 with a goal with just 15 sec
onds left in the third.
“I was happy with our perfor
mance considering the weather left
us with only four defencemen,”
said Coach Scott Pettigrew. He
added, “since we locked up second
place, it has been hard for the boys
to stay motivated so I have been
targeting certain aspects of our sys
tem using these games more as
practice.”
On Sunday, the Goderich Sailors
didn’t put up much of a fight falling
7-1.
Seven different Bulls put the
puck in the net ... Jason McNichol,
Brian Zabel, Jamie Scott, Ted Sills,
Jeff McKee, Corey McKee and
Scott Vader. For Vader it was his
second short-handed goal in as
many games.
Coach Pettigrew said, “I thought
we dominated them from start to
finish and if it wasn't for their
S ports
60 Queen Unit
goalie we could have easily dou
bled our score. I think we outshot
them 65-13 plus rang several off
the post.”
The Bulls played a make-up
game last night (Tues.) in Hanover.
They will wrap up the regular sea
son in Mount Forest on Friday
night. The play-off schedule will be
set on Sunday, following the final
league game. The Bulls first round
opponent will be the Goderich
Sailors.
FROM THE BULLSPEN: The
