PeeWee team goes head to head with Zurich On Saturday, Jan. 25 the Brussels PeeWee Houseleague hosted the team from Zurich in which was an exciting it-ain't-over-till-it's-ovcr type game. Brussels opened the scoring early in the first period with Corey New­ man scoring from Shawn Nichol­ son. Zurich answered back with a goal halfway through the period to tie it up. David Proulx scored unas­ sisted which ended the scoring in the first period with a 2-1 lead for Brussels. Five minutes into the second period Zurich scored two quick goals giving them a 3-2 lead. Craig Thompson scored assisted by Shawn Nicholson and Corey New­ man. With the aid of good defence by Tom Pearson, Jeff Finch, Wendy Thompson, Steven (Gube) Machan and steady goaltending by Jamie Thomas the second period ended in a 3-3 tie. In the third period Zurich opened the scoring to give them the go- ahead goal. Adam Carr then tied it up for Brussels by scoring assisted by Eliane Affolter and Wendy Thompson. Shawn Nicholson assisted by Corey Newman and Craig Thompson put Brussels up by one. With 45 seconds left Corey Newman scored on an empty net, assisted by Craig Thompson and Shawn Nicholson. That ended the scoring and the game. Final score was Brussels 6, Zurich 4. RESTONIC LEGACY SLEEPSET Close Call Brussels Bulls’ Greg McNevan gets a close-in chance on the Goderich Sailors' net but to no avail in Sunday's Western Jr. C action in Brussels. Outstanding goaltending for Goderich kept the score down to 7-1 although Brussels fired 65 shots at the net. The two teams will meet in the first found of the playoffs.FREE BRASS HEADBOARD Bulls gear up for playoff run The Brussels Bulls are gearing up for another run at the Western Junior C title. The Bulls picked up four points on the weekend, beating Walkerton and Goderich. Despite the weather, Brussels made the trek to Walkerton on Fri­ day night and beat the Blackhawks 4-2. Jamie Hislop and Todd Norman gave the Bulls a 2-0 lead after the first. The Hawks cut the lead in hall on a goal by Mike Bradstock. Then with the Bulls killing off a foui minute spearing penalty to Jamie Hislop, Scott Vader and Greg McNevan broke out on a two on one. Vader used McNevan as a decoy and deked Jon Biesenthal foi a 3-1 lead. Scott's brother Greg made it 4-1 with just 2! seconds left in he sec­ ond. His shot was stopped, but then a Walkerton defenceman knockec it into the net as he was hustling tc get back to help. The Blackhawks made the final 4-2 with a goal with just 15 sec­ onds left in the third. “I was happy with our perfor­ mance considering the weather left us with only four defencemen,” said Coach Scott Pettigrew. He added, “since we locked up second place, it has been hard for the boys to stay motivated so I have been targeting certain aspects of our sys­ tem using these games more as practice.” On Sunday, the Goderich Sailors didn’t put up much of a fight falling 7-1. Seven different Bulls put the puck in the net ... Jason McNichol, Brian Zabel, Jamie Scott, Ted Sills, Jeff McKee, Corey McKee and Scott Vader. For Vader it was his second short-handed goal in as many games. Coach Pettigrew said, “I thought we dominated them from start to finish and if it wasn't for their S ports 60 Queen Unit goalie we could have easily dou­ bled our score. I think we outshot them 65-13 plus rang several off the post.” The Bulls played a make-up game last night (Tues.) in Hanover. They will wrap up the regular sea­ son in Mount Forest on Friday night. The play-off schedule will be set on Sunday, following the final league game. The Bulls first round opponent will be the Goderich Sailors. FROM THE BULLSPEN: The league banquet is being held this Saturday night in Hanover. Team captain Corey McKee has a shot at the league M-V-P award. Todd Norman is one of the favourites for the rookie of the year award. He has 16 goals and 18 assists for 34 points in 28 games in his rookie year. Kyle Anderson robbed the Hen- sall shooters time and again to give the home team the win. Hensall kept the pressure on but managed only one goal. Hensall took the lead early in the second period but Tim Robinson scored from Justin Campbell two minutes later to tie the score. Before the period ended Robinson scored again from Aaron Himmelman to give Belgrave the lead for good. In the third period Mathew Snow scored an unassisted goal, then Tim Robinson rounded out the scoring with an assist from Justin Campbell. Sunday, Belgrave hosted Goderich and held on for a 4-2 win. Justin Campbell started his team off right with an early goal from Tim Robinson. Goderich tied the score early in the second period but Campbell scored his second goal, assisted by Robinson, to tie the score. Mathew Cameron added to the lead when Craig Marks set him up. Craig Marks rounded out the scoring for Belgrave in the third when he scored from Mathew Cameron.
